MWAHAHAHAHAHA! (That was supposed to be an evil laugh.)

APRIL FOOLS!!!!

“Mystery on the Cahaba River” is an 8th grade MEAP story and you DO NOT have to do this homework.

I repeat … tonight’s HW is a prank!  You DO NOT have to do it!

BUT … if you read the whole story and you do all the QAR (neatly with colored pencils) and you get at least FOUR of the questions right, you will get a ticket of your choice AND major extra credit points.

WARNING! Your HW must be turned in to Mister Dobert BEFORE 8:oo AM on Wednesday, April 2, 2014.

That means you MUST give the assignment to Mister Dobert BEFORE you go to A2 tomorrow.

I hope you know why I posted the Titanic story on my blog.

You don’t HAVE to read the WHOLE story.

I mean, if you’re super bored, you COULD.

But really, you just need to include something from the story in your rough draft letter.

HINT: PLEASE re-read the directions for the 50 point letter to make sure you did it right.

Tomorrow, I will read your rough draft and possibly let you get started on your final letter on “old” paper.

Enjoy your snow day! 😀

I’m going to TRY to add several assignments to your grade today.

You might want to check your student connect later this evening.

HW

1. TIMELINE

  • 8 athletes, 6 from book plus Serena Williams (2007) and Peyton Manning (2014).
  • Each athlete should have name, year, sport, salary.
  • NEATNESS counts!  Take your time.  Don’t forget to add a little bit of color.
  • Feel free to add a picture for each athlete.  If you do not want to print and glue pictures, you could draw artwork for each athlete to represent their sport.

2. composition book #3

  • “Favorite Summer Activity”

3. BOOK FAIR SNEAK PEEK!

  • What is the exact total amount of money you would need to buy ALL the books in the BFSP! brochure plus one poster?  Don’t forget to add tax of $15.42.  Show your work!

4 square district test coming soon!  Today in class we practiced the first square.

Today I collected:

  • BW – Figure out the cost of the three books on the front of the BOOK FAIR SNEAK PEEK!  Show your work and restate.
  • CW – BOOK FAIR SNEAK PEEK! questions.

Tomorrow I will be collecting:

  • T-chart (on loose leaf). Title – “Do Pro-Athletes Make Too Much Money?”  List three bullets for NO and three bullets for YES.  Your answers MUST come from the two articles that are in the book.  Read pages 960-961 for NO.  Read pages 962-964 for YES.
  • SKETCH sheet.  Choose ONE word from page 964 that you do not know.  Fill out a SKETCH sheet for that word.

MONDAY – I will be collecting your athletes timelines.  The rough draft should already be done (20 points).  The final project is due Monday (80 points).  Please add Serena Williams (2007) and Peyton Manning (2014).

HW:  Visit the website below.  Research two jobs (careers) and salaries.  Write the jobs and salaries on loose leaf paper.

https://money.usnews.com/careers/best-jobs/rankings/the-100-best-jobs

BW: Politely ask for page 964.  Carefully read the page.  While you are reading circle or highlight all the words you DON’T know.  Then neatly write those words on loose leaf. Skip lines.

CW: Make a timeline using the athletes found on pages 963 and 964. JUST MAKE A ROUGH DRAFT!  (but make it a nice, neat rough draft) We will be adding a few more athletes in class.

HW:  Visit the website that was on the chalkboard.  Research at least two jobs.  Write the jobs and their salaries on a piece of loose leaf.

HW: Choose 4 of the bolded words from the vocab at the bottom of page 959 and complete a mini-sketch sheet for each word.  Please use small, neat handwriting.  Your pictures do not have to be amazing art work, but they should show the meaning of the word.  Of course, amazing art work is also OK.

HINT:  There’s a very good chance that the quiz I’ve been talking about for the last two days will finally actually happen on Monday, so read and study page 962.  😀

Oh and one more thing … read your library book!
