This CER is NOT DUE today.

You will have to write the FINAL COPY of the CER on Monday on Google Classroom. BUT … please look over the prompt and the evidence (quotes) and the reasoning and start DRAFTING your CER on a piece of paper.

HINT: Only two of the quotes and two of the reasonings are good choices.

PROMPT: Describe TWO ways the author, Mackenzie Carro, supports the idea that binge-watching all the time is problematic. Use two quotes from the text and two reasoning in your OWN words to answer this prompt.

CHOOSE ONLY TWO OF THESE QUOTES:

  • Another significant quote from the author is when she includes a suggestion from a doctor: “Dr. Danish Alam … recommends deciding at the start of the week how much time to dedicate to shows and videos” (Carro, page 23).
  • According to the text, it states, “Zoning out with a good show can help you relax and take your mind off your worries for a while” (Carro, page 23.)
  • The author writes that, “A 2017 study found that people who binge regularly are more likely to be chronically tired because they stay up later” (Carro, page 23).

CHOOOE ONLY TWO OF THESE REASONINGS:

  • This quote is important because zoning out means to turn your mind off and just take a break from overthinking everything so much.
  • The fact that an expert (a doctor) suggests setting a time limit on binge-watching supports the idea that binge-watching can turn into a serious problem.
  • Being chronically (constantly) tired leads to sitting around doing nothing all day which is clearly unhealthy. After all, sitting is the new smoking.

DON’T FORGET THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO BEGIN YOUR CER WITH YOUR CLAIM (restating the prompt).

IF YOU NEED ANY HELP CHOOSING YOUR QUOTES AND REASONINGS, PLEASE E-MAIL YOUR ELA TEACHER!
