“Seventh Grade” by Gary Soto
CW/HW – sketching to show comprehension
Read the bottom of page 39. DRAW Victor and Michael at lunch. Your drawing should include every detail that is in the story. You should also add details from your own knowledge. Since you don’t have the book at home, I’ll help you out a little. Here is a list of things from the story that should be in your sketch:
- Victor and Michael are sitting at lunch.
- Victor has tuna casserole, bread with butter, fruit cocktail, and milk.
- Michael is scowling between bites. The book doesn’t say what he’s eating but he’s eating something.
- Girls are walking by them.
HINT: Scowling means Michael’s upper lip is quivering and his teeth are showing. He’s trying to impress the ladies.
HW “LIST IT”
NOTE: This homework is ONLY for sixth hour. BUT the students in 1st, 3rd and 4th hour should redo the homework if they didn’t do it the first time or if they did it wrong.
On loose leaf, make a neat bullet list of tips on how to make a good impression. Please explain each of the tips – one or two sentences is good. It is BETTER to bullet list 5-7 GOOD tips and explain each one instead of making a huge list of 20 or more blah tips and not explaining them.

I WAS going to add another composition book page, but I think all this ^ is enough.

Answer on a fresh sheet of loose leaf. Copy the question at the top of the page. Skip Lines. At the bottom of the page, draw a very small cat. Be sure to include examples and explanations to support your answer. The cat thing is just to make sure you are really reading the directions. 😀
