I hope you are all well. The end of the year is just a couple weeks away. I have chosen to give you what remains of the school year to complete all tasks that have been assigned to you since the start of the shutdown, if you have not done so yet. Please do your very best to submit all work by the end of this week. I would like to have grades finalized by the start of next week. However, you do have until the 11th of June.

This week, I would like you to focus on practicing your typing through Typing.com (10 to 15 minutes each day), and update your typing tracker when you finish entire lessons. I would like you to share your typing tracker with me at the end of this week so that I may check it.
Additionally, I would like you to work on “Word Processing” lesson 10, 11 and 12. All of these lesson are found in “Career Prep”under “Digital Literacy”. Please record your scores on these assignments in your tracker as well.

Project – How should you handle inappropriate online talk?
This week, You will acquire how to handle inappropriate online talk by learning to recognize risky situations and respond to communications that make you feel uncomfortable.
To accomplish this, you will first read the handout Safe Online Talk: Warning Signs in iLearn, under the section titled Digital Footprint Topic 1. Following this, you will put together a Google Slides presentation or Microsoft ppt presentation about how to handle inappropriate online online talk.
Directions are located in iLearn, under Digital Footprint Topic 1. Please read the directions carefully. I provide you will specific step-by-step instruction.
Once you are done, I would like you to share your work with me via email. Please share to the following email.

Syllabus
Hello Everyone,
Computer Applications includes keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphics, presentation and data retrieval. Students will use various technology tools to create computer-generated projects and explore technology related careers. Content standards are based on the Michigan Educational Technology Standards (METS) and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS). It meets the requirements for the State of Michigan Certification of Eighth Grade Technology Literacy and the DPS High School ComputerApplications course requirement.
We will concentrate on the following six units in this class:
- Typing Skills/Keyboard Shortcuts
- Organization/File Management
- Word Processing
- Presentation
- Spreadsheets
- Online Safety/Digital Footprint

Course Description: This course includes keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphics, presentation and data retrieval. Students will use various technology tools, create computer-generated projects and explore technology related careers. Content standards are based on the Michigan Educational Technology Standards (METS) and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS). It meets the requirements for the State of Michigan Certification of Eighth Grade Technology Literacy and the DPS High School Computer Applications course requirement.
Tests: There will be pretest at the beginning of the unit and a posttest at the end of the unit.
Homework: Students will have homework if they did not finish their work in class. Most of the time students will do their work in class.
Grades:
A: 90-100
B: 80-89
C: 70-79
D: 60-69
E: 0-59
Required Materials:
– School Planner
– Pen or pencil (preferably pencil)
– 1 pack of antibacterial wipes to wipe down your hardware (ex. Clorox wipes, Lysol wipes, etc..)
– 1 pack of computer paper
Computer Lab Expectations
– Follow the DPS Technology Acceptable Use Policy
– Visit websites only allowed by the teacher
– No food, gum or drinks in the computer lab
– Follow the 5P’s (Prompt, Procedural, Prepared/productive, polite, and positive) 1. Prompt: Be in your seat and ready to start class on time. 2. Procedural: Follow directions the first time they are given 3. Prepared/Productive: Bring all materials to class
4. Polite: Raise your hand and wait t be called on before speaking
5. Positive: Respect yourself and your surroundings. – When using the computers, visit websites only allowed by the teacher. – keep a clean area – Place your keyboard and mouse below your monitor before you leave – Push in your chair before you leave and take all your personal belongings with you. – Log off, DO NOT SHUT DOWN, the computer at the end of class.
