Breaking Down the Text

Overview:

This week we read “Still I Rise” – Maya Angelou.  We walked through a variety of annotation models together. Students focused on close reading and analyzing diction, syntax, style and tone. We analyzed the idea of  “Struggle and success” as a theme and how the text employs specific patterns, words, or phrases to depict both. Students cited textual evidence to complement their analysis of the literature. We discussed the “SOAPSTone” strategy and explored  Article of the Week through group and class reading.

First Week!

Congratulations 9th grade on the successful completion of your first week of high school!

I am very excited to jump into learning and the wonderful world of Language Arts with you this year!

This week we created our classroom norms and procedures, discussed classroom syllabus and expectations, adjusted to the new environment by making a few friends during our icebreaker activities, and set individual goals for this year. Students had the opportunity in class to sign up for Remind and subscribe to our class iBlog.

As you all know, our classroom is still under renovation and we are hoping to have it ready soon. Please be patient at this time; we are expecting to have the rooms painted this weekend and in for more!

Attached is the Fordson High School Expectations Matrix for your reference.
