Newsletter for the Week of October 14th

  • A little old lady is walking home through the forest on a cold October evening. She is accosted by some spooky figures trying to scare her: a pair of shoes, some pants, a shirt, a hat, and some gloves. This, however, is a singularly fearless old lady. Even when their leader, a grinning jack-o-lantern, tries to scare her with a big “Boo!” Saddened, they come to her door to ask just who they can scare. The old lady has an idea and whispers it to the pumpkin and his cohorts. The next morning she sees they have followed her suggestion. There is a Halloween scarecrow in her garden made from her spooky friends. This a charming and funny story that children delight in. Click the button below and enjoy the story at home with your child.
  • We made scarecrows to hang in our class
  • Our letter of the week was F. We practiced vocabulary words that start with the /F/ sound
  • We continued our ULS lesson on Learning About Myself.
  • For math this month, we are pairing objects with one and only one number
  • Howe Great Lakes Apple Crunch was on October 17th. We counted 1,2,3 and crunched into apples together with all the kids in our school!
  • The Creative Needs Project students from U of M came and put on a wonderful Trunk or Treat event for our kiddos. The boys carried the treat bags for our girls since they were all absent Friday. Such gentlemen!

Peek at the Week

  • The Hungry Witch provided lots of Halloween fun this week. This story takes a look at a witch’s Halloween supper. She eates a wonderful meal of bugs and worms and spiders, but when she decides to add a few children to her plate, she gets a very different surpise. The brave children give her a big “BOO!” and off she runs. Children love being grossed out and this Halloween meal is delightfully awful. There’s a lot of new vocabulary and plenty of oppoirtunties for communication in this story, but its main attraction is Halloween fun.
  • We also read I Like Myself by Karen Beaumont. This story goes with our ULS unit for the month of October, Learning About Myself
  • Our letter of the week was E. We practiced vocabulary words that start with the /e/ sound
  • For math this month, we are pairing objects with one and only one number

Going to the ZOO…

On Monday, October 28th, we will be going to the Detroit Zoo.  This is a very special trip as the Annapolis Honor students are paying our way and spending the day with us.  They fundraise throughout the year to have this special experience with our students.  It is always such a fun day.  Each student will need to send a packed lunch.  If your child is tube fed, we will feed them while we are there.  Please sign the permission slip and send it back by Oct 17, 2024. If you already sent it in, thank you!

We will be riding a school bus to the Administrative Service Center to go Trick or Treating this year.  We will leave around 12:30 p.m. and return when we are finished.  Please send in your child’s costume clearly marked with their name.  We will help the students get dressed after lunch.  We will be going on Thursday, October 31sr. The permission slip is attached.  Please fill it out and return it by October 17, 2024. If you already sent it in, thank you!
