An Important Message from Stout Middle School…

Dear Families,

We hope you are safe and healthy. Due to COVID-19, we will NOT be holding live, in-person Honors Ceremonies this year due to the restrictions on social gatherings over 100 people and the 6ft apart rule for individuals not in the same household. We want to maintain safety precautions and measures, and in doing so, will be sharing a virtual Honors Night video that we will be preparing for students in grades 6th through 8th.

We will be sharing 6th and 7th grade slideshows and the 8th grade video on Thursday, June 11th at 3pm via our school blog at stout.dearbornschools.org. We know that these slideshows do not replace in-person, live events. However, we will also be placing student and family safety as a top priority and are committed to doing our part to ensure we are containing the spread of COVID-19.

All honorees will have their certificate of achievements printed and prepared in a folder for them. On Wednesday, June 17th, 2020, we will be hosting an Honors Pick-Up for 6th through 8th grade students. 8th graders may pick up their certificates and report cards from 9am-12pm. 6th and 7th graders may pick up their certificates and report cards from 12:30pm-3:00pm. Please note, ALL students may pick up their report cards on this day. The pick-up will be conducted similarly to our Chromebook distribution, as a drive-through, at the front of the building in the circular driveway. We look forward to seeing all of our 2019-2020 Honorees.

Congratulations!

Mr.Oke and Mrs. Faraj

Dear Parent/Guardian,

According to Johns Hopkins University, the effects of summer learning loss can result in nearly a three-month loss in grade-level equivalency in math and a two-month loss in grade-level equivalency in reading.   As a result of the school shut down, estimates suggest students will return in the fall 2020 with roughly 70% of the learning gains in reading relative to a typical school year.  However in mathematics, students are likely to show much smaller learning gains and in some grades, nearly a full year behind what we would observe in normal conditions. In order to close the summer learning loss gap in reading and math, middle school students will be  expected to complete Summer Learning before they return in the fall.  Teachers will grade the completed summer work when school opens in August.  Below are the expectations for math and literacy.  Thank you so much for supporting your child’s development through summer learning.

Math:

  • Complete 60 minutes of Khan Academy practice a week (Practice only, videos will not count), at grade level just completed.
  • Students need to access Khan through Clever from the Dearborn Schools Student page.

DO NOT LOG IN FROM THE STUDENT’S PERSONAL  ACCOUNT

Below is the grade breakdown by minutes for Math.
480+ minutes =A   384 – 479 =B       336 – 383 = C       288 – 335= D

Literacy:

  • Read a minimum of two books of your choice before you return in the fall.
  • Then, in your English Language Arts class you will complete some sort of evaluation. This could be in the form of a book talk, a one-pager, or a small project about your reading. These are generally related to characters, conflicts, plot, and lessons learned. Please refer to building blogs for more specific information.

Attention Stout Families,

From Monday, June 1st through Friday, June 5th, from 10am to 3pm, students will be able to RECOVER any materials they have in the building and RETURN any materials that are property of Stout that they may have. Please read the following information carefully as it pertains to your child. This will be conducted the same way as our Chromebook Distribution, as a drive through. However, the drive-through will take place in the Staff Parking Lot, at the far right if you were facing our building, where busses depart at the end of the day. The day that you can come pick up your materials depends on where your locker is. Parents must accompany their child and bring ID.
