It was very nice to meet some parents at open house last night.
Forensic Science: We finished up our guided notes (see yesterday’s post for the powerpoint) and have some interesting discussions about legal terms and crimes. Tomorrow we will apply these terms to a case study.
Chemistry: Today students tested their hypotheses by conducting their experiments. Their data, results, and conclusion should be done for homework if they didn’t finish them in class.

Welcome back to school! This year I will be teaching forensic science and chemistry, so make sure you are reading the correct post.

Chemistry: Today we filled in our scientific method foldable and began designing an experiment. Students will be completing their experiment tomorrow in class. Homework was only if they didn’t finish writing their experimental procedure.

Forensic Science Semester 2 Exam Study Guide 2016
If you complete the study guide, you can use it on your semester exam. You are not required to complete the study guide. It will be collected after your exam so it cannot be passed to other students.

This week we have been going outside and observing our very own ‘body farm’ in progress. Students are collecting data each day and observing decomposition and insect activity first hand. We will be using this data for a summative assessment (analysis of the body farm) on WEDNESDAY!

Students would complete the online reading of challenging text and answer questions related to the text in their own words.
Retakes for the Autopsy/Time of Death quiz will be Tuesday and Wednesday next week after school. To be eligible for a retake, students must complete an additional study guide (so they are ready), and have no missing work for that unit (reading guide, vocab, internet activity).

There is a quiz tomorrow on autopsy and determining the time of death. Students should have vocabulary, guided notes, a reading guide, and an online assignment to study. We went over the following questions in class:
What are the steps in an autopsy?, Who completes an autopsy?, What are the 5 manners of death?, How is algor mortis used to estimate time of death?, What is rigor mortis and what causes it? How is it used to estimate time of death?, What is livor mortis? What causes it?, What does livor mortis tell use about the body?
Today we finished up working on a time of death activity, and student’s needed to justify their answers using evidence and reasoning.

We watched a video on Friday, so this pushed all of our activities back a day, including the quiz~QUIZ ON WEDNESDAY!
Today students were working in groups on a When Did She Die activity using livor, rigor, and algor mortis.
