(this is a long post…don’t give up, LOL)

It’s official…we make an amazing second grade team already 🙂  We have gotten a lot done in this first week.  We have been focusing on the routines that will make us an effective little learning community throughout the rest of the year – and we are pretty much rocking it out!!  Here we are on the first day of school…

You are a huge help at home by checking your child’s “Home Folder” and their planner every day.  The planner will be used to write homework and to let you know how your child’s day went by showing you what color they ended up on for behavior.  Color changes for behavior will start on Tuesday.

Just a reminder that we do not have school on Monday – Eid Mubarak to all of our friends who are celebrating this weekend!!

Next week has 2 events we would love to have you join us for!  On Tuesday the PTA is having their Welcome Back Picnic from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.  For more details, click here.  Then, Thursday night will be our Open House from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30, so pop by for a few to say hi 🙂

I have fallen behind on my posts, lol.  Thanks so much to everyone who helped with all of our events lately 🙂

Here are some pictures (okay, A LOT) that I have taken along the way (or that were shared with me by chaperones)…

• Monday: Field Day. K-2 will play games outside in the morning from 9:00-11:00. Please send in a water bottle with your child and apply sunscreen before coming to school.
• Tuesday: 2nd Grade Picnic. Students should pack a lunch and can bring a blanket to sit on. We will head to York Park at about 11:45 and enjoy lunch, then students will get a chance to play for a while.
• Lunch Choices:
  • MONDAY 6/13
    • 1st choice = fish sticks
    • 2nd choice = cheese pocket pizza
  • TUESDAY 6/14
    • 2nd Grade Picnic – please send a packed lunch
  • WEDNESDAY 6/15
    • 1st choice = shrimp poppers
    • 2nd choice = cheese pocket pizza
• Also:  please send backpacks to school every day – we will be cleaning out our desks a little at a time.

There were 2 notes in the “to be mailed” bucket that my mailers never got a chance to do…

The second was the permission slip for our Detroit Zoo field trip next week.  I will send it home tomorrow, but I have attached it just in case you want to be ahead of the game or, at the very least, see the details for the trip.  There is no limit on chaperones for this trip – the more the merrier!! 🙂  Please remember that this is a trip for your 2nd grader to enjoy so if you would like to chaperone but have little ones, please make other arrangements for them.   Zoo permission slip

We had a great day today!!  Thanks so much for being so generous with the treats/time/snacks, etc….we VERY much appreciate it!  We accomplished all the important stuff on our list for today 😉  It was pretty warm in our room so thinking ahead to next week, please try to send a water bottle with your child for their desk.  (Does anyone have a box fan laying around they don’t use???)

No homework over the long weekend 🙂  Spelling isn’t due until June 3rd.

• Science test tomorrow! Science Study Guide Jeopardy Plants
• Spelling notebooks came home today.  We have 15 words and the students need to complete 4 more activities (a total of 5) – the test on this list will be Friday, June 3rd.  This will be our last spelling test 🙂
• Birthday Bash is coming up on Thursday afternoon.  Adam’s mom has generously offered to make cupcakes.  Would anyone be willing to send in ice cream??  If you are willing/able, please comment on this post.   Students can also bring in a drink to enjoy during the party.
• Social Studies test on Thursday morning.  Here is the review again:     Social Studies Review Unit 6
• We will also do library check-out on Thursday (it’s a busy day!!), so please help your student remember to bring their books back.

• Science test Wednesday – Students received a study guide this afternoon. We will review in class on Monday. Here’s a copy of the study guide: Science Study Guide
• Social Studies test Thursday – Students will receive a study guide on Monday. They will review with Ms. MacDonald in class on Wednesday. Here is the study guide: Social Studies Review Unit 6
• Birthday Bash – Thursday afternoon we will celebrate everyone’s birthdays during our Birthday Bash while enjoying an afternoon snack of pizza and cupcakes!  Look for more details in the home folder on Monday 🙂

I just found out about an upcoming event hosted by Henry Ford College that I wanted to share! Family Night will be held June 16th and is free. Click on the link to learn more about it:  Family Night

• Thank you for all of your empty can/bottle donations.  Mrs. Bronson returned them for us today and totaled our donation at $44 🙂  The money will be used to buy flowers for the 1st graders to plant around the school.
• Math test on Thursday.  Here is the study guide:  Math Unit 10 Study Guide
• Science test on Wednesday 5/25 and a social studies test on Thursday, 5/26.  The study guides for both of these will be posted at the end of the week.

Dates to remember:

• No school on Friday, May 27th and Monday, May 30th
• Zoo field trip is Wednesday, June 8th
• 2nd grade picnic is June 14th

I am so grateful for the special touches you all contributed to that made this week AMAZING!!  From the bulletin board to the flowers, and then today the super cute bag filled with awesome gifts – it was all very generous and certainly made me feel special!  I LOVED it all 🙂  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!
