- Please try to send 100’s day projects in on the 15th since I don’t really have a ton of space to store them.
- If you printed a valentine’s list from the blog yesterday, it was missing Sandy’s name at the bottom. I have updated it. Her name was on the list sent home, so if you are using the pink one, you’re good!!!
- If you are turning in a book order, please send it in to me tomorrow morning, or order online by the end of the school day tomorrow (class code MK4VL). I will sit down after school tomorrow and submit the final order.
- Yesterday we started a writing piece that explains “how-to” make hot chocolate. Of course, we had to practice first, LOL!!

Valentines and the 100th day…
Notes should have come home last week with information about Valentine’s Day and the 100th day of school. I know sometimes they get lost in the shuffle, so I am posting them here in case you missed it. Let me know if you have any questions 🙂
- The February lunch menu had 2nd choice printed incorrectly. The corrections are: Feb 6-10 is cheese pocket and Feb 13-17 is grilled cheese
- Game day is Monday for students who earned the January PBIS reward. Students may bring in a board/card game to play. No electronics please.
- Information came home today about Valentine’s Day and the 100th day of school.
- For the 100th day, each student is asked to create a poster that represents 100 things. Posters can be any size. We have been talking in class about equal groups and arrays so they are encouraged to organize their poster that way. I found some pictures from last year just to give you a visual.
We practiced equal groupings and arrays today…it was delicious 🙂
Coming soon…
- Report cards will come home tomorrow 🙂 As always, if you have questions or concerns please send me an email.
- Valentine’s Day AND the 100th day of school are coming up and ended up being right next to each other on the 14th and the 15th! Notes for both things will come home tomorrow.
- Late start: Wednesday, Feb 15th
- Did you see??? Book orders came home yesterday. The students and I were so excited and found lots of good stuff! The easiest way to order is online. Go to scholastic (https://clubs.scholastic.com/) and there should be an orange square on the right that says “parents”. Enter our classroom code MK4VL and then order away 🙂 You can also order by filling out the order form in the flyer and send that in with a check. Please place your order, or send it in to me, by next Wednesday, Feb 8th.
- It was too cold to go outside today, but we have been going out the last few days. The kids love to be able to go in the snow, but they cannot do that without snow pants or boots, so please continue to send those in.
This was a busy week with NWEA and the end of the marking period. Please continue to be patient with reading groups, as I am testing some students and we still have a few who need to finish their NWEA tests. We continue to have a lot of things going on at once.
Some of the highlights of our week were the wildlife assembly, meeting with buddies, and playing social studies jeopardy:
Tough decisions…
We started our day off today with a pretty tough decision to make, LOL. You can see that the voting was pretty close!
Welcome back!! I hope everyone had a super break and is enjoying 2017 so far 🙂 I was excited to see that a few students worked on their snow catapults over break. I have included a few pictures and a video of those awesome engineers. We have been busy getting back into the swing of things by reviewing and practicing routines. Please remember no school on Monday. Also, I have heard that the lunch menu says Tuesday is a late start…oops…the late start is actually Wednesday, January, 18th.
Thank you :)
Before my break officially starts, I just wanted to say an enormous THANK YOU to all of you for your kindness and generosity. You are seriously amazing and I am super lucky!!!
I was looking around after everyone left today thinking “wow, we got everything done on the list” and then I noticed the January reading calendar still sitting on my desk…oops. It may not even be on your radar yet, but when January comes, if you decide you want it, you can print it here: Jan. reading calendar
I was having issues getting pictures to go from my phone to my email, but I finally figured it out, so, of course I have a few from yesterday and today to share with you (its been too long without any pictures to share, lol):
Tomorrow :)
- Don’t forget tomorrow is our holiday party 🙂 Students are able to wear their pj’s for the day.
- The wrapped book is due tomorrow if your child would like to participate in our book exchange.
- We DID go out for recess today. Please continue to send in boots, snowpants, etc…everyday. (I know it’s a lot, but it’s totally worth it to them)
- Math test on Friday. If you haven’t gone through the study guide and would like to, please click on the following link: Unit 4 Math Study Guide
Next Week…
- The Unit 4 math test will be given next Friday. We have been working a lot on different strategies for addition. These include drawing base ten blocks, using an open number line, decomposing, and traditional addition. On the test, they can use whatever strategy they are most comfortable with. The test will also cover money, some word problems, and skip counting. You can use this study guide to help prepare for the test. Unit 4 Math Study Guide
- Lunch menu change: first choice on Monday will be a “Cheesy Italian Grilled Mozzarella Sandwich”. Second choice will be a grilled cheese sandwich.
- Wednesday is a late start. School begins at 9:40.
- Our holiday party will be Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. We plan to wear pajamas and enjoy some delicious pancakes. You are welcome to join us. It should last about an hour(ish). If you still want to make a party donation, please send a dollar or two in an envelope marked “room parents”.
- Ms. Philips and I are also planning a book exchange for the students. If your child would like to participate, please have them bring in a new, wrapped book by Thursday.

In the News…
- Scholastic News homework came home today and is due tomorrow.
- Math pockets came home today also, but you can keep those until next Tuesday. Students can play any game that is in the pocket. I know it’s not a worksheet, but it is GOOD PRACTICE!
- Late Start: Wednesday, December 21st
- For Thursday the 22nd, each student should bring in a NEW, wrapped book to exchange with the rest of the class. If you cannot get a book, please send me an email – I ordered a few extra from scholastic just in case 🙂
- Friday, Dec. 23rd is our school sing-along. The organization Children with Hair Loss will be here again. Any adult or child with at least 8 inches of hair to donate is able to participate for this great cause. The hair will be donated and used to make wigs for sick children – free of charge to their families. We already have 2 students in our classroom who are participating 🙂 If you, your child, or a family member or friend, would like to participate, please let me know so I can forward you all of the information.
