Monthly Archives: October 2015

This just in…

  • students can bring a flashlight with them tomorrow for reading during Daily 5.
  • If it works for you, some families are picking their child up at lunch to take them home, feed them, and help them with their costume.  If you choose to do this, please return by 1:10 so that you are here in time for the parade.
  • Before I forget, here are a few pictures from science yesterday 🙂

Halloween Info…

  • Costumes should be school/age appropriate and sent to school in a bag labeled with your child’s name.
  • We will change into costumes after lunch.
  • The parade should be around 1:15 if the weather is good.
  • Our party will start after the parade.
  • Your child is welcome to send in treats to pass out to the class.  Remember we have peanut allergies.  Please make sure the treats are individually wrapped.

If you have any questions, please send me a quick email or respond to this post 🙂

Today was a little bit backward since we were not switching for ss and writing.  We ended up with Daily 5 in the afternoon, and before I knew it, I looked up at the clock and it was 3:28!!!  We did not have a chance to glue our new spelling words in, so I told the students that I would post them here so they would not lose a whole day of study time.  This week’s pattern words are:  cut, tube, cub, bump, fume.  I will have them choose 3 individual words tomorrow instead of 5 and they will bring their red spelling notebooks home.

Also, don’t forget we have a Unit 2 math test on Wednesday.  I posted the review last Friday, but here it is again just in case you missed it. Unit 2 Pretest

On Wednesday, the study guide for science will come home.  The test will be the following Wednesday, November 4th.

HAPPY FRIDAY :)

  • Just a reminder that we have a social studies test on Monday.  The students played Jeopardy yesterday as a review.  If you would like to play at home, I have uploaded it here.  It is a powerpoint presentation.

Jeopardy Unit1

  • A unit 2 math test is coming up next week.  The test will be Wednesday, October 28th.  We have been focusing on story problems and the key words that help us understand if it is addition or subtraction.  Please use this review to help your child study.

 Unit 2 Pretest

  • For Daily 5, one of our rotations is Listen to Reading.  Some students have been asking if they can have their own pair of headphones/earbuds.  I have suggested that they get earbuds – this way they can put them in a ziploc and keep them in their ‘traveling pencil case’.  If you prefer regular headphones, that is fine also.  This is not required of the students – we have headphones at each computer and ipad already.
  • Our Halloween party is coming up next Friday, October 30th.  I have been asked to remind you about sending in your party donation of $3 if you can.  Students will change into their costumes after lunch – the simpler the better 🙂  The parade will be around 1:15, weather permitting.  Our party will start around 2:00.  You are welcome to join us if you can!!

updates…

  • Menu change for tomorrow:  new item – stuffed crust pizza (triangle piece of pizza with cheese in the crust), 2nd choice is grilled cheese
  • DUE TOMORROW:  math homework pages 31 and 32, red spelling notebook with 3 completed activities
  • Don’t forget to bring library books back tomorrow also
  • We made Howard’s facebook page!!  Mrs. Burch snapped a few pics of us playing jeopardy during social studies with Ms. Philips 🙂
  • Just a reminder that we have a social studies test coming up on Monday.  The review went home earlier in the week, but I have included it here, too.

Social Studies Review

Tomorrow…

is a busy day!!!  We have our weekly spelling test, library book check-out, and it’s a 1/2 day so students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.  It is also the last day to turn in box tops!

On another note, I just wanted to make sure students are reading their 20 minutes each night and coloring their book-it calendar.  Everyone who returns their calendar at the end of the month, with at least 25 days of reading colored in, will earn a certificate for a free personal pizza from Pizza Hut.

Thanks to the families that have donated dice!  We now have enough for everyone 🙂

In the news…

  • THANK-YOU to the families that have donated dice!!  We are up to 15 🙂  I did have a mom find them at the dollar store with the paper products (weird, right?!).
  • Homework:  tonight there is math, front and back, #’1-6 on both sides.  Tomorrow night they will  have homework that goes along with their social studies.  Thursday night they just need to study and make sure their spelling activities are complete.
  • Friday, October 16th is a half day of school.  Students are dismissed at 11:45 a.m.
  • We did our first week of Homeworkopoly last week.  Every student who returned all of their homework assignments (completed, of course) got an opportunity to roll and move their # on the game board.  There is a chance that they will win a prize.  This week a few students won prizes that included: use the teacher’s chair for the day, pick a GoNoodle, add a brownie point to our class total, get a fun eraser, and sit on the couch for the day.  They had so much fun!!  We will continue Homeworkopoly every Friday.
