Access to Technology

Posted on

Parents,

We understand that with learning currently being online, there are definitely some things to figure out with technology access. The district is looking into a possible process for families who need technology access for their child and to possibly sign out Chromebooks. Please let me know if this is something that you are in need of. Thank you.

Update on Remote Learning

Posted on

Good morning students and families. I hope everyone is doing well and continuing to stay as healthy as possible. Please continue to stay informed with the district’s COVID19 updates and helpful informative resources.

This week will begin our official first week of online learning. Again, this will definitely be a learning process for all of us. I will be here to help guide you through the process and assist to help make this new experience as smooth as possible. Please be patient and understanding if we hit some bumps along the way. Together, we will get through this!

Again, I have sent an invite to all of my students through Google Classroom. Once they accept the invite through their Dearborn Schools E-mail (which is their student identification number – they also know these numbers as their classroom and media Chromebook login/lunch card number) and join the classroom, they will have access to all of the learning and assignments. I want to thank you in advance for bearing with me as updates and/or changes are made. Please know that in addition to Google Classroom, I have created an IXL.com account for each student. Please see the included roster from the previous blog post for individual student log in information. This is a platform where students will also be able to complete learning activities and tasks that correlate with our Math and Reading/ELA lessons. All specific required activities will be listed in Google Classroom.

With our situation being so fluid, thank you so much for your understanding during this time. I will make adjustments as we go to ensure quality and effective learning, while also understanding differences in each student’s schedule and availability to technology. Please continue to stay safe!

Dear Families,

As you know, this time has been very tense and anxious for many. I hope this message finds all of you healthy and safe. I am in the process of uploading learning for the first upcoming week off of school. I have updated and sent an invite to all of my students through Google Classroom. Once they accept the invite (through their Dearborn Schools E-mails) and join the classroom, they will have access to all of the learning and assignments. There is a start to the week, but please bear with me as updates and/or changes are made (this is definitely going to be a huge learning process for all of us) and we will get through it together! I will continue to make blog posts to update you. In addition to Google Classroom, I have created an IXL.com account for each student. Please see the included roster for individual student log in information. This is a place where students will also be able to complete learning activities to correlate with our Math and Reading/ELA lessons. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Especially with this situation being so fluid, thank you for your understanding during this time. Please take care of yourselves.

SAFE Program at Whitmore-Bolles

Posted on

Students in grades 3-5 will be participating in a district initiative through the SAFE program to talk about substance abuse and prevention.  Presenters from the SAFE program will meet with our students in their classrooms for two 30 minute sessions (February and March).

The first session will focus on psychoeducation and awareness of Nicotine, alcohol, marijuana, and vaping.  Students will complete an interactive activity that is geared towards peer pressure and how to say “no”.  The second session in March will include a brainstorming activity with an interactive experience refusing these substances and using resources to help others.  Students will learn how these substances affect the brain and the body, and what types of social situations the may find themselves in where they will need strong skills to say “no”.

There will also be a parent session offered in March.  Please contact the school with any questions that you may have.
