Third graders learned about watercolor washes and creating texture using burlap and sand to make a mixed media artwork about beach environments. 

After creating the beach scene, students used magnifying glasses to investigate the lines, shapes, colors and textures of different types of shells.

They created a book to record their findings about the similarities and differences they observed in the shells and in their drawings.
