Piet Mondrian

First and Second graders are learning about how an artist uses line to create a work of art. We are just getting our feet wet, as the new school year unfolds. We have been doing “jumping jacks for our fingers” in art class, practicing drawing different kinds of lines. We are focusing on horizontal and vertical lines with our first look at Mondrian’s work. The above is called Broadway Boogie Woogie and can be seen at the MOMA in New York City. I was lucky enough to see it in person while studying art with a group of artists from Eastern Michigan University. (Stay tuned for an animated video of his work, once I figure out how to embed a video)
