Week Ahead – 10/28 – 11/1

Monday, October 28, 2019

Hello families, I hope you had a nice weekend! This week is a busy one for our classroom and here at Miller. Wednesday students will attend the Pumpkin Patch and Petting Farm. For our PBIS reward, students will enjoy a magic show. Wednesday night is Miller Boo Bash from 5-6:30 pm. Friday will be a half day for students with an 11:45 am dismissal. This is the last week in the card marking period. It’s hard to believe a quarter of the year is done. This week we will be wrapping up many of our units and finalizing report cards. Parent teacher conferences are fast approaching, and I will be sending out reminder notices of the time and date of your conference that you signed up for at Open House. Those will be coming home by the end of the week. If you have not sent back the parent consent form for the healthy living class that all third graders will be participating in, please get that turned in by Wednesday at the latest. That is when our next class is, and if your child does not have a signed consent form on file, he or she will not be able to participate. Here is our focus for the week:

Math: The module 1 test will be on Tuesday. We will begin our next module on measurement and focus on telling time. Please practice reading clocks with your child and asking him or her questions about time. For example, how long will something take or how much time is it between two activities.

Science: We will be taking our science test on Thursday. Study guide for this test will come home on Tuesday.

Social Studies: The geography unit test will be on Tuesday. We will review the study guide today. I am confident that students are prepared for this test. Please study with your child as well to prepare them even more. This will be an online test.

Reading: We will be comparing and contrasting informational texts by finding the main ideas and key details.

Writing: Students will finish typing their personal narratives and show what they know about writing personal narratives by writing a scary story.
