Summer Learning

Dear Parent/Guardian,

According to Johns Hopkins University, the effects of summer learning loss can result in nearly a three-month loss in grade-level equivalency in math and a two-month loss in grade-level equivalency in reading.

As a result of the school shut down, estimates suggest students will return in the fall 2020 with roughly 70% of the learning gains in reading relative to a typical school year.  However in mathematics, students are likely to show much smaller learning gains and in some grades, nearly a full year behind what we would observe in normal conditions. In order to close the summer learning loss gap in reading and math, students should be reading on a daily basis and or completing math activities. Below are recommended reading list/activities.

Thank you so much for supporting your child’s development through summer learning.

Last Day Farewell

Dear Snow Families,

On behalf of the Snow Team, we would like to wish every Snow family a safe and relaxing summer break.  We are so proud of how the whole Snow community came together during this difficult period to support our students. Each child is precious to us and we miss them dearly.

To help our students continue to make progress throughout the summer break, we will be posting suggested summer work.

Thursday, June 11 is the last half day of school for students. The Snow staff would like to say goodbye to students for the summer. They will be standing along Culver Street at 11:00 am on June 11.  Staff will be waving goodbye and sending their best wishes to all Snow students.  We are asking any family that chooses to participate, to drive south down Culver at this time and wave to the staff and honk their horns!

As we receive information regarding the 2020-2021 school year, we will be sure to communicate through the district website and our Snow School blog.  Have a wonderful break!

The Snow Team Thanks you,

Amal Alcodray
Principal Snow School

Mrs. Slater

We’ve anchored down another year! Enjoy your summer!

We made it through our First Grade Adventure! It was a short but wonderful year full of surprises and excitement! I enjoyed working with all of my students and their families. I wish you all the best!

Have a great summer break!

SNOW SUMMER CHALLENGE!!

Dear Snow Families,

According to Johns Hopkins University, the effects of summer learning loss (summer slide) can result in nearly a three-month loss in grade-level equivalency in math and a two-month loss in reading.

Your child had a great school year and has learned so much!  We do not want the summer slide to occur as we want your child to start off strong next year!  Reading and math skills can be practiced on iREADY and Zearn.

THE SNOW SUMMER CHALLENGE-  1 hour on I-Ready per week and 1 hour on Zearn per week.  This is a school recommendation, not an assignment from me. I will not be monitoring this during the summer. Please continue to encourage your child to read, write and practice their math skills this summer!

Fund Raiser for our 5th Grade Graduates

Hello Snow families!

When this year’s 5th-Grade class was dismissed on March 12th, little did they know they would be saying goodbye to their elementary school, along with many of the ‘lasts’ that were yet to come.

With the help of the school staff and the PTA, let’s come together and celebrate them and their years at Snow with a sign for their yard! Each sign is only about $5. You can donate at the secure link here. Congrats class of 2020!
