I hope everyone had time to relax and refresh over the break. January is the first month of the year, and its name comes from the Latin word for “door.” Perhaps that’s why January seems to be the time to open doors to new possibilities and new beginnings. After enjoying Ish, by Petter H. Reynolds, 3rd graders will use Kami to create a reflection on a talent they would like to spend more time developing.

1st graders this week will review their copy and paste skills to make a snowman in Google Slides after enjoying the book The Snowman by Raymond Briggs. 2nd graders will use their typing and drawing skills on Kami to reflect on an event in which they helped someone or were helped by someone after enjoying Wolf In the Snow by Matthew Cordell.

Our media curriculum is focusing on uses technology resources to solve problems or create solutions. Students will using the Kodable program to practice the skill of writing code to have a character complete a path.

Being a problem solver helps develop academic and social skills, especially in reading.

Please encourage your child to show you how to use Kodable at home.

This week, we will complete our tall tale assignments using KAMI, an online document annotation and markup tool, and receive an introduction of Fractured Fairy Tales, which takes a classic fairy tale or children’s story and adds a twist, changes characters, or makes it more modern. Ninja Red Riding Hood is one example.

Hello families,

This week our technology focus for 1st and second graders will be to become proficient at copying, pasting, and moving objects with the touch pad as they decorate their turkey on their computers.

3rd graders will continue to work on their typing skills in addition to copying, pasting, moving, and rotating objects.

While enjoy some holiday stories – 1st and 2nd graders will be practicing making predictions. 3rd graders will focus on quote accurately from the text and determine the meaning of words or phrases used in the text.

I hope you have time to enjoy the stories that are being read to the children this week. 🙂

We are in our 3rd week of Digital Citizenship Curriculum.

Students have been also practicing how to log in to computers and install the Kami App on their computer. This app that Dearborn Public Schools subscribes to will allow them to annotate documents I give them online.

Third grade students are also beginning to take pretest for typing skills. Typing skills are necessary, but is something that is a challenged to teach in our very busy days. When they come to media class, they will have the chance to practice for a few minutes at the start of the class. They will be tracking their progress all year to see their growth. 🙂

In addition, we have been focusing on how the author and illustrator sets the mood in a story. Below are the stories that we have been enjoying.

Hello families!

The purpose of ficition/non fiction books, the different text features of non fiction is the focus for this week’s lessons. Reading for interest and purpose is is key and since people have different interests, learning where to find a book in the library of their choosing is important.

In future lessons, students will be shown online resources for safe and effective learning. Becoming a lifelong learner is my goal for all! 🙂
