Bellwork gave students practice graphing and writing equations of inverse relations and determining if the inverse relation is a function or not.  They also practiced finding Domain and Range.

Hwk #10 is due today

The rest of the period we began discussing ways to determine if the inverse of a function is also a function without actually graphing the inverse.  Students used SAS4 – Topic 2 – questions 12-15 during the hour.  We also began discussing the concept of how you could alter an original function so that it’s inverse would become a function.

Hwk #11 was made available to the students but hasn’t been assigned yet.  SAS4 – Topic 2 – questions 16 & 17.

Bellwork gave students practice writing the equation of the inverse given several original functions.

The remainder of the period we began our discussion of the inverse relation to a quadratic function.  We used SAS4 from Topic 2, questions 1-8 to explore a situation that can be modeled with a quadratic.  Then, using that situation students examined the inverse relation three ways:  tabular, graphical, and algebraic.

Hwk #10 is due tomorrow – SAS4 – Topic 2 – questions 9-11.

Bellwork gave students practice finding the equation of the inverse for a linear equation.

Hwk #9 is due today.

The remainder of the period students were introduced to the inverse of an exponential function, called a logarithmic function.  In class we worked through SAS3 questions 1-10 (skipping #1).

No homework assignment.

Bellwork gave students practice writing linear equations from a table of values.

Hwk #8 is due today.

The remainder of the period we continued our discussion of Agilemind Topic 2.  Using SAS2 – Topic 2 students learned how to write the equation for the inverse of a linear function two ways:

  1. Using a table of values from an original linear function, students created a table of values for the inverse, then using this new table of values students wrote the equation of the inverse.
  2. Using the original linear equation, students rewrote the equation by switching the x and y variables, then students solve this new equation for y.

Hwk #9 is due tomorrow.  SAS2 – Topic 2, problems 17-21.

Monday, September 23, 2019

Bellwork had to determine the independent and dependent variables from a real-life situation and determine if the relationship between these variables represented a function.

The remainder of the period we used the Agilemind website to explore Relations and Inverses:  Agilemind Topic 2:  Overview.  Students used the situation posed in the bellwork to create a graph of some data then used this data to create the inverse relation.  Students used SAS 1 questions 1-5.  We then began another situation using SAS2 questions 1 & 2 along with the beginning pages of Exploring on Agilemind.

Hwk #8 is due tomorrow.  Students are to finish questions 3-7 from SAS2 – Topic 2.

Bellwork (Sheet #1) gave students practice finding domain and range of a graph.

The remainder of the period student worked on Sheet #2 (Classwork) where they discovered what happens when the points from a relation are replotted by switching the x & y coordinates.  This sheet was due by the end of the period.

Bellwork gave students practice using some of the formulas we’ve been using to solve for missing terms.

The remainder of the period we finished our discussion on Infinite Series.

Hwk #7 is due tomorrow.    This homework was on a sheet of paper given to the students and included some written problems as well as problems from the Agilemind website.

The test over Topic 1 will be given on Thursday, September 19, 2019.  The test will include a written portion for which students were given a review.  There will also be a portion of the test done online answering questions from the Agilemind website.  To study for this portion students should review the practice problems from Topic 1 on the Agilemind website and look over previous bellworks and examples of problems in class.
