Students,
This week, Lowrey Staff members took the time to clean out their first hour students lockers. Anything and everything that was left in your locker was placed in a plastic bag. On that plastic bag is a sticker with the students name and first hour teacher. Tomorrow, Monday, June 1st, 2020, you and your families will be required to come pick up your belongings.
6th graders are asked to arrive at Lowrey anytime between 10am and 12pm on MONDAY 6-1-20. 6th graders should go to the Bingham block at the back of the school. Bags will be brought out and teachers will station themselves along the block as to not congest one area and maintain social distancing.
We are also asking if you have any Lowrey textbooks, library books or classroom library books at home, to PLEASE bring them to return as well on Monday.
When you arrive at the school- please find your FIRST HOUR TEACHER’s station on the sidewalk- and use the number given to them by the first hour teacher.
MY FIRST HOUR CLASS- please see the list below for your Pick Up Number. Knowing your first hour teacher’s name and your Pick Up Number will help the distribution flow more smoothly. There are eight students listed below that had EMPTY lockers- you do not have to come to the school unless you have textbooks/library books to return.

I hope all of you are doing well. I know SO much has changed since we left school on 3/12/20. I also realize that you have been receiving mixed messages about online work. Although I am not putting these new assignments in the grade book- I have been asked to keep track of who is making an effort and trying, and those who are not. I will be required to share this data when we return to school.
Dearborn has worked very hard to make sure that all students have access to technology (chromebook pick-up sites) and online learning opportunities. Although we are not meeting on a daily basis AT LOWREY SCHOOL- your education is still EXTREMELY important. I am worried that many of you are looking at this time out of school as a “vacation”. Not doing ANY work over this time off is not academically wise. We need to keep our brains working and motivated and stimulated. Your education is VERY IMPORTANT- and I am worried about you sliding backwards and losing all of the progress and hard work you have put in this year towards becoming better readers and writers.
I realize this first week off was a HUGE transition week for everyone. Families everywhere are trying to make sure they stay healthy and are prepared and stocked up in case of a prolonged shut-down. I have been doing the same for my family.
I will continue to post weekly assignments that are feasible to finish in the time given. If you work 30-60 minutes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ELA assignments- you should be able to stay academically motivated and keep up on your learning. I will also continue to keep track of who is and who is not attempting these assignments.
If parents or students have any questions or concerns- please email me at nasserL@dearbornschools.org and I will reply as soon as I can.

Dearborn Schools offering free breakfast and lunch pickup for students at six sites
Dearborn Public Schools is offering free pickup lunch and breakfast for students while school is closed for the mandatory shut down over the next three weeks.
Families will be able to stop in and pick up a bag with both breakfast and lunch for each child in the family. Pickups will run daily from 10 a.m. to noon starting tomorrow, March 17 at Fordson, Edsel Ford and Dearborn high schools, McCollough-Unis, Salina Intermediate, and Woodworth Middle School.
Signage at each site will direct parents and students where to enter the building. Food will be near entrances to minimize the amount of time community members spend in the facilities.
Please note, meals are available to anyone age 18 and younger. Students do not need to be present, and the Dearborn School student does not need to attend at that building. A designated person can collect meals for multiple children. Meals for Saturday and Sunday can be picked up on Friday.
The program will allow the District’s 20,700 students to continue to have access to healthy food. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer last week ordered all Michigan schools closed from March 16 through April 3 to slow the spread of novel coronavirus and cases of COVID-19. Dearborn Schools is scheduled for spring break April 6 to 10, so school will not resume in the District until April 13.
The grab-and-go meals will be served at least through April 3.
Superintendent Glenn Maleyko praised the District’s food service team for quickly implementing this drastic change in service to meet the needs of families.
“We appreciate the patience of our families and community as we all try to adjust to this sudden change from closing schools,” Dr. Maleyko said. “More than three quarters of our students qualify for free or reduced priced school meals. We realize this food is important to our families, many of whom may be facing additional financial hardships from the sudden economic changes related to COVID-19.”
Check the Dearborn Public Schools website at www.dearbornschools.org for any updates or changes to the meal program or for other issues regarding the school closure.
