Today was part 2 of our video covering the Medici family. We also worked on student led notes for Chapter 17 Section 2-The Northern Renaissance. Each student was is expected to have their notes complete before class tomorrow, so mom and dad this would be a great day to check up on them.

Here’s what we did today:

o       Video-Medici-Godfathers of the Renaissance  (Last 30 minutes of 55 min)

o       w/ Guided Fillin the Blank Video Questions

o       Vocabulary Match-up Review Activity-Chapter 17-European Renaissance and Reformation  (Sections 1-4)

o       Lecture-Chapter 17-Section 2-The Northern Renaissance

o       Student Led Guided Notes

o       Daily Objective-

o       Content Objective:

§        SWD analysis of the rise of the Medici family and their impact on Italy through using guided video questions and class discussions.

§        SWD analysis of key terms associated with the unit covering Chapter 17 through the manipulating of vocabulary terms in a collaborative activity

§        SWD evaluation of the effects of the Renaissance on Northern Europe that led to new developments during the Elizabethan Age and the spread of new ideas through comparison and the use of guided notes

o       Language Objective:

§        Students will listen and record the rise of the Medici family and their impact on Italy by using guided video questions and class discussions.

§        Students will read and orally match up important vocabulary terms pertaining to the unit covering Chapter 17 by using a vocabulary match-up activity

§        Students will read and record information regarding the evaluation of the effects of the Renaissance on Northern Europe that led to the new developments during the Elizabethan Age and the spread of new ideas by completing student centered guided notes

Good afternoon! As we continue on with our unit covering Chapter 17 we are going to dive into the Medici family in order to gain a greater understanding of their influence on Florance Italy and the Renaissance.

Here’s what we have going on today:

o       SSR-Mona Lisa: The Theft That Created a Legend by Sheena McKenzie (CNN November 19th, 2013)

o       SSR Inquiry Questions-

o       1.) Do you feel that Vincenzo Peruggia’s decision to steal the Mona Lisa was a good thing or a bad thing based on his reasoning? Please explain why.

o       2.) If you were Peruggia how would you have handled the theft, concealment and sale of the Mona Lisa?

o       Video-Medici-Godfathers of the Renaissance (1st 25 minutes of 55 min)

o       w/ Guided Fillin the Blank Video Questions

§        SWD evaluation of an excerpt from “The Prince” by Machiavelli to ascertain the process a leader must take to maintain and increase their power over their subjects by critiquing the text and completing a reading activity

§        SWD analysis of the rise of the Medici family and their impact on Italy through using guided video questions and class discussions.

o       Language Objective:

§        Students will read an excerpt from “The Prince” by Machiavelli to ascertain the process a leader must take to maintain and increase their power over their subjects by completing a collaborative talk to the text activity

§        Students will listen and record information on the rise of the Medici family and their impact on Italy by using guided video questions and class discussions.

Today we began notes on Chapter 17 notes and completed a Talk to the Text Activity. Here’s the breakdown of today:

o       Lecture-Chapter 17-Section 1-Italy: Birthplace of the Renaissance

o       Talk to the Text Activity-Excerpt from Machiavelli’s The Prince

o       Daily Objective-

o       Content Objective:

§        SWD analysis of the conditions in Italy that fostered the birth of the Renaissance, new artistic styles and the important artists that emerged by categorizing their roles and influences through the use of  guided notes

§        SWD analysis of the theories contained in Machiavelli’s The Prince that shaped the thoughts of monarchs during the Renaissance by outlining Machiavelli’s writings a Talk to the Text activity

o       Language Objective:

§        Students will listen and write information supporting the conditions in Italy that fostered the birth of the Renaissance, new artistic styles and the important artists that emerged by categorizing their roles and influences by using teacher led guided notes

§        Students will read and responses to the theories contained in Machiavelli’s The Prince that shaped the thoughts of monarchs during the Renaissance by formulating thoughtful answers to guided responses through a talk to the text activity

§        Students will read and orally match up important vocabulary terms pertaining to the unit covering Chapter 17 by using a vocabulary match-up activity

§        Students will write answers to guided questions that require examination of the additional supporting resources/information located within Chapter 17 by completing a Guided Tour activity
