This week in Kindergarten:

Reading: We will discuss the snow and read many stories by
Jan Brett. We will practice our sequencing and retelling with
pictures and words. We will also identify author’s purpose to
entertain.

Writing: We are learning about opinion writing. We will write
about whether we like snow or not. The sentence stem will be:
I like snow. I like it because__. I like when___. or I do not like
snow. I do not like it because . I do not like __ .

Language Arts: Blends and digraphs: sh- , -sh(shop, ship,
brush, push, etc)Phonemic Awareness: rhymes, short i medial
sound of cvc words, Sight words:said, this, on, up, dog (review:
have, you)

Math We will be counting numbers 0-50. We will continue to
practice count by 5’s to 100. We will continue to compare sets of
objects using the symbols: greater than, less than, and equal to:
<,>,=. We will have a test on this the following week. Please
practice.

Social Studies We will learn about a timeline. Your child
will need to identify milestones in their lives. When they were
born? What happened when they were 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, years old.
We will plot it on a timeline to present.

Science We will continue to learn about tracking weather
conditions. We will investigate severe weather conditions such
as: hurricane, tornado, tsunami and flooding.

Week of January 6th

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!! Welcome back after our lovely winter break! Hope everyone enjoyed every minute they could with their families!

In Kindergarten, this week we will focus on:

Math: We will be counting numbers 0-50. We will practice
count by 5’s to 100. Comparing sets of objects using the
symbols: greater than, less than, and equal to: <,>,=.

Social Studies: We will learn about a timeline. Your child
will need to identify milestones in their lives. when they were
born? What happened when they were 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, years old. we
will plot it on a timeline to present.

Science: We will learn about tracking weather conditions.
We will investigate sunny, cloudy, rainy, stormy, foggy, windy.

Reminders: We are in need of snacks. Perishable items preferred like crackers, pretzels or goldfish. You donations are appreciated

Please dress your child appropriately for the weather. It is getting colder and it is easier to remove layers. If your child does not have snow boots, your child will not be allowed to step in the snow. If your child does not snow pants, your child will not be allowed to play in the snow.

Week of December 16th

Reading We will discuss different  gingerbread stories and focus on answering comprehension questions from literature stories. We will discuss story elements: characters, setting, retelling key events in sequence. We will identify author’s purpose to entertain. 

Writing We are learning about opinion writing. We will write about which gingerbread story was our favorite.   The sentence stem will be: My favorite story was__. I like it because__.  

Language Arts Phonics: Letters: review all- the sound and words that begin with that sound; Phonemic Awareness: rhymes, short a medial sound of cvc words Sight word: review: I, can, see, like, the, a, look, at, go, to, come, we, and, it, is, in, my, he, has, for, are

Math We will be counting numbers 0-50. We will also be counting by 10’s to 100. We will review length and height, weight and volume, longer and shorter, taller and shorter, heavier and lighter. We will learn about area. How many units cover an area. 

Social Studies We will continue to learn about trade. Trade is when you give something away and get something else in return. It is also an exchange between two people.  A long time ago we traded goods for other goods or services. Today, we trade money for goods or services. We will be role playing many of these transactions this week.

Holiday Boutique @ Howard

The holiday boutique is going on this week. A letter was sent home last week. If you are interested for your child to buy items from the school shop, all items are $2. Our class will be visiting tomorrow, Wednesday, December 11, 2019 in the morning.

Kindergarten Card Marking 2 Study Guide


In preparation for Card Marking 2, we will be reviewing and testing the
content listed below over the next few weeks and when we return from
break. This is a guide for you to review with your child with content we
have learned in class.
*Identify all upper-case and lower-case letters and sounds.
*Identify sight words on attached list.
*Reading comprehension-recall two facts about turkeys or reindeer.
*Identify beginning and ending sounds of words.
*Orally count 0-50.
*Identify and write numbers 0-30.
*Count by 10’s.
*Identify 2d: rectangle, circle, triangle and hexagon.
*Identify 3d shapes: cone, cylinder, cube and sphere .
*Understand positional words: in front of, next to, behind, above, below.
*Compare items that are longer and shorter.
*Compare items that are taller and shorter.
*Compare items that are heavier and lighter.
*Social Studies – identify needs, wants, goods, services and trade by
providing examples.

Math We will be counting numbers 0-50. We will also be

stories. We will discuss main topic of an informational story and
recalling key details. We will identify author’s purpose.

formation (always start from the top and write down), the
sound and words that begin with that sound; Phonemic

Social Studies We will review goods. Goods are things
that can be consumed or used. People buy and grow goods
everyday. This includes: food, refrigerator, car, etc. We will
review needs and wants. We will learn about services. Services
is someone doing something for you. This includes: Hair stylist,
pizza delivery man, a teacher, librarian

In order to provide students opportunities to work with community organizations and participate in experiences that support efforts to help those that are less fortunate, our Student Council will be participating in the Goodfellows Newspaper Sales on Friday, December 6. Students will be selling the newspapers at all four corners surrounding the school during drop off from 8:20 until 8:40 in the morning. Please help them in their fundraising efforts by dropping a donation in their buckets as you pass by. Thank you in advance for your support!
