Week of February 11th

Check out what we are learning this week:

Reading

We will finishing up our polar bear investigation. We will practice making predictions to valentine read alouds.    

Spelling words: (-ap) tap, cap, map, to, for, love

Language Arts

We are reviewing all blends and digraphs: th, ch. sh, ph, wh.  Sight words: to, for, love.   We are reviewing short and long vowels: a, e, i, o, u

Writing

We will be finishing up our informational piece about polar bears. We will make valentine cards to give to family and friends. we will learn how to address in a letter/card.

Math

We will continue to learn about number bonds. We will decompose and compose numbers 6,7,8.  

Science

We will continue to chart weather conditions daily in order to forecast the weather. We will chart the weather daily and analyze the data.

Dates to keep in mind:

*Half day on Thursday, Feb. 14th

*Pajama Day on Feb. 14th

*Mid winter break begins on Friday, Feb. 15th-Monday, Feb. 18th

*Students return on Tuesday, Feb. 19th

*Homework will be due on Tuesday, February 19th

*Your child may bring Valentines to share on the 14th. We have 26 friends. We have 12 girls and 14 boys.

Traveling zoo visiting Howard

We are having the zoo visit us at Howard for free! The form was sent home today to participate. Please sign and return to participate. If you do not sign the permission slip, your child can not attend. . You do not need to send money. If you want to buy pictures, than complete the form and send money with your child. Attached is the slip, in case it did not make it home today.

We are listen to collect information. The main idea will be polar bears and we will collect supporting details on the subject.    

Spelling words: pan, man, fan, at, like, a

Language Arts

We are learning about the blend: ph-, Sight words: you, get.   We are also learning about long vowel u.

Writing

We will be writing a informational piece about polar bears. The sentence stem will go as follows: A polar bear is a mammal. It has__. It can__.   

Math

We are starting a new module this week. We will compose and decompose numbers of 5. We will learn about number bonds.

Social Studies

We will learn about how things change over time. We will learn about artifacts to help learn about the past. Artifacts or resources used will be: photo albums, old diaries, computer research, ask an expert.

Science

We will continue to chart weather conditions daily in order to forecast the weather. We will chart the weather daily and analyze the data.

Language Arts

Writing

We will be writing a narrative writing. We will retell a story in writing using transitional words: First,__. Next, __. Last/finally, __.  

Math

We are reviewing comparing groups of numbers. We will count and compare groups using pictures and objects. We will discuss more than one, less than one and equal to/same as.

Social Studies

We will learn about timelines of historical narratives. We will explore lives of MLK Jr and Abraham Lincoln.

Science

We will be review severe weather conditions daily in order to forecast the weather. We will chart the weather daily and analyze the data.

We will continue opinion writing. We will state our opinion about how we feel about snow. Students can write: I like snow because__. I do not like snow because___.

We are reviewing comparing groups of numbers. We will count and compare groups using pictures and objects. We will discuss more than one, less than one and equal to/same as.

Social Studies

We will learn about timelines of our day and week. we will use words such as yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Science

We will be review severe weather conditions such as: blizzards, hurricanes and tornadoes. We will also learn about floods, droughts, and thunderstorms.

***Please note: Some of the students will not be getting new books over the next 2 weeks because I am testing.

***Also, we are NWEA reading and math testing this week and next week. Please encourage your child to try their best!
