May 27th- May 30th

Welcome students and parents!

This blog will be a place where I keep you updated on classroom happenings, links that are safe and good for your child to use to enhance their education, and pictures of classroom activities. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time. Thank you and let’s have a great year!

Read together!

Children who read at home with their parents perform better in school. Show your kids how much you value reading by keeping good books, magazine, and newspapers in the house. Let them see you read. Take them on trips to the library and encourage them to get library cards. Let children read to you, and talk about the books. Ask them questions about the book. For example, What was the book about? Why did a character act that way? What will he or she do next? What is your favorite part of the story? Why? Is this story fiction or non-fiction? Why?

It is very important to look for other ways to teach children the magic of language, words, and stories. Tell stories to your children about their families and their culture. Point out words to children wherever you go — to the grocery, to the pharmacy, to the gas station. Encourage your children to write notes and letters to their grandparents, friends, and relatives.

REMINDERS

We are continuing to work on classroom rules and procedures. Students continue to work on how to behave like second graders. Please make sure your child is on time for school every day. This makes it much easier for them to focus and get their day started. School starts at 8:35 am.

Class Dojo: Please continue to use this app for checking on your child’s behavior, messages, pictures, and news.

The students had a great time at Field Trip to the Dearborn Historical Museum! Thanks to Kareem’s mom, Nour’s mom and Ryan’s mom for being able to help us on the field trip!

March is Reading Month

Please look over the calendar and encourage your child to read for 30 minutes a day. Your child can read books that go home in their book bags and also read books on Razz Kids online. Just record your child’s daily reading minutes.

 * Spelling list: This week’s pattern (-ee, -ere, -ear)

Near, deer, where, gear, peer, feer, steer, there, rear, cheer

Extra credit: wants, needs, goods, and services
