Science Fair Project Rubric

Hello students,

As we quickly approach the Science Fair, many of you have asked for a rubric. I did pass one out already, but it was about 3 months ago at this point. I have uploaded a copy of the rubric to this post, to allow quick access to view it. If you want to score well on this project, you need to follow this rubric exactly.

HERE is a copy of the Rubric you will be graded on for your Science Fair Projects.

Today students worked on completing a portion of their science fair project in class.

At this time students should have the following completed:

  • question
  • hypothesis,
  • research information
  • design of their experiment.

Students should be ready to complete the experiment soon so that the data and conclusion can be written.

Students should then be ready to create a science display in order to compete in the science fair.  The science department at Bryant Middle School has determined that the final grade for the science fair project will be a summative grade.  If a science fair board is not completed, a paper research project must be completed for a grade.

Excellent work today in class everyone. We have a big test coming up on Friday and I wanted to give you the reading we did in class to help study. This is by no means all you should be looking over, it is just a place to start.

Cell Review Running Dictation

At the start of Mitosis we also did a word sort where you needed to match each phase with a description and picture. I have the sheet Here to help you study as well.

Lastly, Ms. Duquette found some BrainPop resources to share with you.

I STRONGLY suggest that you also do the quiz after watching each of these videos.

Test is Friday: Osmosis, diffusion, photosynthesis, cellular respiration, mitosis, cell cycle, chromosomes

Career Cruising Paragraphs

Here are the basic instructions for each of the Career Cruising paragraphs. Remember, you will be selecting ONE of the jobs that the program recommended and research it.

Second Paragraph

Describe what YOU need to do to become this profession.

  • How much school is needed?
  • What schools offer a program for this job?
  • What subjects do you need to focus on in school?
  • How much money does that career earn in a year (average)?

Happy Pi Day

No,that is not a typo. Today is 3-14, the number pi is approximately 3.14!

So, for homework today, if you did not finish in class, you need to so the reasoning portion of our CER. I was asked if I could put the sentence stem up here, so here it is.

Materials move in and out of a cell through ________.

This is when _____________________. An example of

________ was when __________________. This

demonstrated _________ because ______________.

Just to remind you, there is a small quiz tomorrow about the Organization of Living things. Easy to remember: Cells make tissues, Tissues make organs, organs make up organ systems and organ systems make up organisms.

To update my post yesterday regarding grades. I have finished all of 0 hour and today will be moving through 3rd and 4th Hour. I hope to have 5th and 6th hours done by prep tomorrow, so everything should be updated by tomorrow evening.

If you have something missing, you have until THURSDAY to get it to me.

Updated Grades….. Update

Hello students and families,

I just wanted to take a moment to give an update on a time frame for when grades will be updated, a concern I know many of you have with the card marking ending Friday.

Due to the power outages of last week, I was unable to take any of the assignments I had planned to grade home, and had no way to retrieve them for over the weekend. I am going to try to work through them quickly over the next few days to give you an idea before seeing the grade on the report card.  If you need to immediately know where your grade stands, I can try to approximate it based on the assumption that you turned everything in that needs to be graded.

Thank you,

Mr. Bailey

Pumpkin Seed Growth Video

Class, here is the link to the video we watched on Wednesday of a pumpkin seed growing into a full pumpkin.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytMpE6fubSQ

If you were absent, you will need to watch the video above, and fill out this PumpkinSeed Story Board . You will need to draw the big changes to the seed in the order they happened, and below your drawing you will need to write to explain what is happening.

3-Dimensional Cell Model

Students,

It is that time of the unit, we are going to be working on another 3D model. For this model, you will be working on creating eitherplant cell or an animal cell.

We discussed what you need to include, and looked at examples, in class. I passed out a rubric and instruction in class, but if you have lost yours or want an additional copy, one can be found HERE.

If you are struggling for ideas, simply search “Cell Model Projects” in Google. This is for ideas only, try not to copy everything about what you find!

Remember, your model should be larger than 6 inches x 6in. x 6in. but no larger than 12 inches

These Models are due by Thursday, February 9th!

Today in class we worked on an online activity titled “Cells Alive.” You were tasked with drawing and labeling a picture of bacteria, an animal cell, and a plant cell. You were also asked to write the primary role of each of the organelles listed below the picture. This assignment is due Friday, February 3rd!

If you need to access the web page at home you can do so Here.

If you were absent, or you need to print another copy of the assignment, you can download the PDF HERE!

REMINDER

I need your Science Fair Project Sheets by tomorrow. I need to have time to read your proposals over and make sure they are something I feel you can easily accomplish in the next few months!
