Archive for October 2019

Monday, October 21: Preparing for Friday’s assessments, we spent the hour working with our table to develop a flow-chart proof for the Common Angle Theorem. We then discussed our ideas, what worked and what didn’t, with the whole class before trying our hand at writing another proof on our own.

Tuesday, October 22: Everything is focused on getting ready for Friday’s assessments, so we spent the hour working on the chromebooks to practice and review. We did a Bell Work assignment and then spent the rest of the hour working on Practice 2.

Wednesday, October 23: Most of the hour today was devoted to reviewing our unit 3 assessments so that we could make sure that we understood everything and prepared as best we could for Friday’s assessments. Afterward, we spent the rest of the hour working on our two reviews for the assessments.

Thursday, October 24: Most of the students spent the hour working on their two reviews, checking their work against the answer keys at the front of the room. Both reviews were due to be checked in by Moylan by the end of the hour. Make sure that you’re going to tutoring/studying your notecards tonight!

Friday, October 25: Assessments today! Make sure that you’ve studied and prepared! Last day to turn in any Unit 4 assignments!

Monday, October 14: We started Unit 4 today by looking into deductive reasoning and how it is used to support our claims and arguments as well as a few properties of equality.

Tuesday, October 15: We developed a couple of postulates which will help us to build our arguments for the rest of the unit and beyond.

Wednesday, October 16: Both Pniewski and Moylan were out of the classroom today, so students practiced their skills with the Angle and Segment Addition postulates from yesterday while also reviewing transformations and practicing their deductive reasoning.

Thursday, October 17: Picking up where we left off on Tuesday, we took our postulates and used them to prove certain things, creating our first set of theorems which will help us throughout the rest of our proofs in the future.

Friday, October 18: We needed to finish off a couple more problems from yesterday, but then students took some time to fill out an AgileMind Student Survey and then our AgileMind practice assignment which is due on Monday.

Monday, October 7: We launched into our discussion of nonrigid transformations today, focusing on how to apply dilations as well as stretches (both vertical and horizontal). We wrote a few new ordered pair rules, and were encouraged to add them to our notecards from Friday.

Tuesday, October 8: We practiced a level 4 Mastery question for our bell work today, explaining how in depth and involved an answer we are looking for in those types of questions. Most classes needed a bit of time to finish up our discussions from yesterday as well, but then we got our hands on the reviews for this week’s assessments.

Wednesday, October 9: The entire day was devoted to preparing for tomorrow’s assessments, finishing up any assignments from AgileMind and checking our work for the reviews.

Thursday, October 10: Assessments today! We are checking our standards of Applying Transformations and Vocabulary/Naming/Notation! If you didn’t get your reviews checked in yesterday, make sure to turn them in at the beginning of the hour!

Friday, October 11: Half Day, only attending 4th-6th hours! Plan accordingly!

Monday, September 30: Continuing our exploration of Unit 3, we spent most of the hour today practicing some reflections and then looking at the changes to find patterns. We used those patterns to write rules for three types of reflections as well as a rule for rotating 180 degrees.

Tuesday, October 1: Building off of yesterday, we practiced more reflections and then used those ideas to develop rules for describing our translations. One way to describe these was using vector notation (making a connection with our physics classes!).

Wednesday, October 2: We took time today to practice the skills from yesterday by writing rules for the translations of various real-world examples Moylan posted around the room. After turning those in, we worked on a new AgileMind assignment which is due tomorrow.

Thursday, October 3:

Friday, October 4: Pep Assembly today, so each class is just a bit shorter than usual. Make sure to plan accordingly!
