Week of 2/10-2/14: Practice with Text Structure and Author’s Purpose, Finish “Aaron’s Gift” C.E.R.

This week, we’ll be finishing our “Aaron’s Gift” C.E.R. paragraphs. It had been difficult to do so, due to the WIDA testing and NWEA, so it’s nice to get back to a normal schedule this week.

Students have been working on a paragraph analyzing the protagonist of “Aaron’s Gift” by Myron Levoy, and have been deciding if Aaron is a positive role model for kids. They chose 2 character traits to prove that he is a positive role model, and also chose 2 pieces of text evidence to support their claim.

On Tuesday, they will be revising and editing their peers’ work in class, so it is important that they have a clean copy (2nd draft) on lined paper. In looking at past students’ writing, here are some things that this year’s students noticed:

Homework this week:

Monday: Read for 20 minutes each night this week. Record 2 reactions to your book on your metacognitive logs. Eight will be due this Friday. Make sure to bring your C.E.R. 2nd draft tomorrow.
