Hello Families!

As many of you already know, we are experiencing a power outage at and around Oakman. Please check out the video below for a message from me in regards to the rest of this school day! I will miss seeing you all today and meetings are cancelled for this afternoon. Please help your child with the activiies that I mention in the video below. Thank you!!!!!

Today is Constitution Day! We began our morning talking about the importance of rules! Rules keep us safe and help us learn! We have rules at home, outside, and even at school. We have rules on Zoom too! Friends, please talk to your children about the importance of following rules. Maybe you can even talk about some of the rules you have for them at home.

We have such an amazing country! The rules (laws) in the Constitution are to keep us safe and help us learn. Here are some videos to show your children for Constitution Day!

Hello Famililes!

Thank you for another really great day of learning on Zoom!

Today we reviewed Aa, Bb, CC, Dd, and learned the letter Ee! We made uppercase E and lowercase e with playdough! It was so fun!! Ee makes the sounds we hear at the beginning of elephant and the beginning of eagle.

We practiced being good listeners when I read the book, “Little Blue Truck” by Alice Schertle. Here is a version from Youtube! Be sure to listen for the rhyming words!

We practiced counting the numbers of words in a sentence using cups and a cup!!!

For our social emotional learning we use a program called Second Step. We have been practicing how to be welcoming!

Hello Families!

For Math today we discussed things that are exactly the same and things that are different. We looked for objects in our houses that are exactly the same (ex. a pair of socks) as well as objects that are same but different…. (ex. 2 different colored crayons)

We also practiced writing numbers as counting by ones!

Hello Families!

We read a book by Mercer Meyer to practice good listening skills.

We began an introduction into rhyming words! Rhyming words are fun to play with. They have different sounds at the beginning but the rest of the words will sound the same. (ex. house, mouse; cat, hat)

We practiced writing our names with one uppercase letter and the rest lowercase letters.

We learned the number 8.

We practiced identifying objects that are the same and objects that are different! We did this with socks!!! We made and cut out 2 socks that were the same and one sock that was different! This was a lot of fun!

Week 3 At a Glance :)

Hello Families!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We are heading into week 3! This will be our first full week of full day Young 5s! I am so excited for the super things that will happen this week!

Take a look at our schedule! We are beginning our new language arts program this week. We are learning literacy and writing with Benchmark! We are also beginning in module 1 with Eureka Math! In addition to these programs, we will begin Second Step. This is our program to follow for social and emotional skills development.

Here is the schedule for Week 3!

All of you have appointments to bring your child to Oakman School to meet with me in our classroom! I will ask your child questions about letters, numbers, shapes, and their name! I am excited to see them face to face! Please be on time for your appointment and be sure to wear a mask. Thank you!

Hello Families!

Today was a PERFECT day of ZOOM!!!!!!!! Yay!!!! WHOOOO HOOOOO!!!!! I am so so so so thankful! It was wonderful to hear and see all of the students and teach them!! Thank you for your patience and kindness this week!

Today we practiced the nursery rhyme, Jack and Jill. We acted it out with out puppets and drew a picture of Jack and Jill! We also talked about some of the vocabulary words; fetch (to go and get), pail (a bucket with a handle), and crown (the top of a head).

Hello Families!

Well….even though we experienced some rough waters with the technology, we still enjoyed each others’ smiles and hear each others’ voices! Thank you so so so much for the patience and kindness you all are showing. Thank you for all you are doing to help your children!

I called each one of you today and set up appointments to meet with you and your child next week. I am so very much looking forward to meeting with you all! Please wear a mask when you come to your appointment.

Hello Families!

We had a busy day remote learning today! We also had some glitches! But…..I am confident that things will get better!!!! 🙂 You all are so patient and I appreciate EVERYTHING you all are doing!

Today we practiced reciting and retelling the nursery rhyme, “Hey Diddle Diddle”!

We made our own cow jumping over the moon! We traced our hands to make adorable cows!

We also drew our favorite part of the nursery rhmye and talked about it!

In addition to all of this….we practiced writing our names and counting the letters in our names!

Hello Families!

Thank you so much for helping and assisting your child with the zoom remote learning today! I know this is a very different way of doing Young 5s, but we are making it engaging, educational, and fun together!

Please know that all students are expected to be logged into zoom for the day’s meeting by 8:55. They are to stayed logged in until 1:55. We can turn our cameras and microphones off during lunch and specials. Your child’s participation on zoom is how I take the morning and afternoon attendance.

Thank you again for the amazing participation and engagement that happened today!
