Hello 🙂 our PBIS Reward this Friday is the 5th Grade Talent Show. Mrs. Lippert would like you to read the attached flyer regarding donations.
March Is Reading Month
Posted onYour child brought home his/her Reading Month Packet last week. Please refer to the calendar that was included in the packet for Daily Activities your child can do both at school and at home. Tuesdays are Mystery Reader days in school and every Thursday your child is encouraged to come to school with a fact in their pocket. 🙂 Also, EVERY FRIDAY reading minutes are due. Your child needs to record 150 reading minutes during the week and have you sign their slip in order for it to count. Late minutes will not be accepted unless your child is absent.
If you would like to be a guest reader in our class we would love to have you come and read a 10-15 minute story of your choice. I ask that you please do NOT bring treats, rewards, or snacks for the children when you come. Although I am always grateful for your generosity, I would like to keep this a reading only event. 🙂 Out best days for guest readers are Tuesdays and Fridays. Just send me an email (martinh@dearbornschools.org) if you’d like to read and let me know what date and time works best for you. Thank you!
Also, just a reminder, that your child will have a spelling test this Friday from last week’s words and the vocabulary they brought home yesterday will be part of the test.
Because of the snow day again!
Posted onOur Book Fair day has been moved to Monday (this allows teachers who signed up for Wednesday to go tomorrow and teachers who signed up for Thursday to go Monday). Therefore, please DO NOT send your child with money tomorrow. It will be safer to keep the money at home until Monday. Thank you 🙂
Also, the math review will be tomorrow and the test will be moved to Monday.
There will NOT be a spelling test tomorrow. I am moving those words into next week. We still have more in class practice to do with those words. Therefore, the test on this week’s words will be next Friday and the kids will not get a new list next week.
Thank you and I hope everyone is staying warm.
Due to the snow day today…..
Posted onOur math test for module 4 will be moved to Friday. The review will be sent home tomorrow.
Also, our book fair day WILL remain the same, which means your child should still bring money tomorrow (Thursday) if he/she plans on shopping.
Any questions, please email me at martinh@dearbornschools.org
Have a wonderful day!
Math Module 4 Assessment
Posted onOur end of module assessment is scheduled for this Thursday. It will cover all of Module 4. A review will go home with your child on Wednesday. The best way to prepare would be to go over the review questions with your child but also make sure they complete all of the lessons on Zearn up through lesson 16. They will be given time today in class to catch up but some students will need to spend additional time on this program at home in order to get caught up.
Thank you!
Week Of February 24th
Posted onI would like to start this blog with gratitude to my wonderful room moms for another amazing holiday experience for our children! The kids thoroughly enjoyed their Valentine’s Party and activities. The hot fudge sundaes were a huge hit!! In fact, I was having so much fun watching them that I completely forgot to take pictures! The thing I loved most about this celebration was how much my students (your sweet children) truly love each other. This class is one of a kind and I am very thankful to all of you for your amazing parenting and for sharing your children with me.
I would also like to express thanks for the valentine’s cards and gifts I received. You are all so thoughtful and generous! I definitely have a years worth of chocolate 🙂
This is our last week of February and there are a few things things happening, as well as many things coming soon! We have our book fair this week. There will NOT be a preview day, but the kids brought home flyers and a note telling you that our buying day is Thursday. So if you would like for your children to purchase books, please send money with them on Thursday.
The Howard Staff will be finalizing details for March Is Reading Month at our staff meeting on Monday. Information should be coming home at the end of this week 🙂
Ms. Minier, Ms. Schug and I are also finalizing plans for our One Room Schoolhouse field trip in April and Oakwoods Nature Park in May.
We don’t know what kind of crazy weather we are going to have in Michigan this winter, but please send snow boots even if there is not much snow because the kids will not be let off the blacktop due to muddy conditions either if they do not have boots.
I hope everyone had a wonderful week of relaxation! I’m looking forward to seeing the kids again 🙂
Snow Boots and Gloves
Posted onGood morning! Today we are going out for lunch recess and many students do not have snow boots and gloves. The kids will only have indoor lineup and indoor recess if the temperature is below 20 degrees, therefore, they must be prepared even on snowy days to go outside. We want them to be safe and warm 🙂 but we also do not want to track water and salt into the classrooms on the bottoms of their shoes. Any help you can give us to make sure your child has outdoor boots and indoor shoes for the remainder of winter would be greatly appreciated.
A Few More Things…
Posted onJust a reminder that our 3rd Grade music concert is tomorrow evening, February 12th at 6:00 pm. 🙂 All students should report to our classroom by 5:45. I am asking that you please keep your child’s coat with you after they enter the classroom, as they will not be returning to the classroom after the performance.
Also, as we enter the second half of the school year, pencils, extra eraser tops and crayons are getting scarce. Please ask your child what they may need- some of the kids have extra pencils that I store and they know who they are 🙂 Many students will be needing an extra spiral notebook too, as theirs is getting full. I will write in your child’s planner if this is the case for them. ** Student Council is having a pencil/eraser sale this Thursday for 3rd graders. Cost is 25 cents each.
We are also down to our last 3 boxes of Kleenex. If you would like to donate, I would be more than grateful to accept the donation.
Week of February 10th
Posted onTomorrow and Tuesday, the PTA will be holding a Candy Gram sale at lunchtime. The pink paper went home with your child last week. It requested that you write down the names and classroom teachers of the students your child will be buying Candy Grams for and then sending in the appropriate amount of money. Each Gram is $1.
Also, please remember to send in your $5 donation for our Valentine’s Day party which will be held on Friday the 14th. I need to give this to Mrs. Hamka by tomorrow.
We will again have 6 vocabulary definitions on our spelling test this week. Please have your child practice the spelling for each of the 20 words as well as the definitions for the 6 that will be sent home on Tuesday.
Week of February 3rd
Posted onPlease see the link above for information regarding the 3rd Grade Bake Sale. Our grade level is responsible for donating the baked goods this Thursday. If you can help, it would be much appreciated! Feel free to send your child to school with $1 on that day if he/she wants to buy a treat after school.
Reminder: Tomorrow is a late start.
We will be having our PBIS Recognition Assembly tomorrow morning. These are the kids who stayed on GREEN the entire month of January 🙂 Zac. A, Husayn, Madleen, Sophia, Noor, Dean, Natalia, Layla, Houda, Isabella, Zachary H. Hani, Danya, Mahadi, Jawad, Maya, Hadi, Mila, Mousa, Owen and Joanne!!
Our 2 new Student’s of the Month are Husayn and Noor. Great job!

Tonight your child is bringing home a review for Module 4 Topic B in math. The mid-module assessment will be Thursday. This covers Topics A and B. We will have our weekly multiplication Quiz tomorrow. Keep practicing those facts at home 🙂
The spelling test this week will cover vocabulary for some of the words. Your child will bring home their definitions before Thursday night in order to study.
A big Thank YOU to all of the moms who made our Birthday Bash a success. This kids loved it!
Finally, Valentine’s Day will be upon us before we know it. Please check your child’s Take Home Folder for information on the party periodically. Today your child has a note from the PTA regarding Candy Grams. I will try to post more as I get more information.
