End Of The Year

Posted on

So here we are, the official last day of school. I’m sure it feels as unnatural to you as it does to me! I wish we had not had this kind of year, but if we had to, I do know that we ALL definitely did the very best we could with what we were dealt. I am so proud of all of my students for their hard work and perseverance and so thankful to all of you parents for your constant support. It’s nice to know that we can get through something like this, but I sincerely hope we never have to again!

I have no doubt that with your continued support and the support of our excellent 4th grade teachers your children will thrive next year.

This is my home address if your child wants to write to me this summer! I will ALWAYS write back 🙂

9865 Hawthorn Glen Dr. Grosse Ile, MI 48138

If your child prefers to email, they can do that too! I WILL respond 🙂

I have attached a video that the Howard Staff put together for your children. Please have them click on the attached link. 🙂 Also, please check the Howard School Blog for additional info from Mrs. Sabbagh.

It is my understanding that report cards are being printed and will be mailed to your home. If I hear differently, I will surely let you know!

Have a WONDERFUL, safe summer.

Dear Howard Families,

This message is for all 5th-grade students and their families. On Tuesday, June 9th, from 12:00-2:00 pm, we will have a drive-up distribution to congratulate all the 5th graders on their promotion!!!!!! Please remember that this will be in a drive-up format in front of the school on N. York St. For your safety, please remember that all students and parents must remain in their vehicles at all times and may not enter the school building. Our teachers are excited to see you! Please feel free to decorate your vehicles if you like! Way to go, Howard Dragons…you survived 5th grade and quarantine, you are ready to take on MIDDLE SCHOOL!

See you soon!!

This is our final week of online learning. I can almost hear the collective sighs of relief! 🙂 Again, I can’t thank you enough for all of the support you gave to your child during all of this. I know it wasn’t easy or ideal. I just pray that things go back to normal in the fall! Positive thinking!

Please let your children know how proud Ms. Martin is of them and tell them that I hope they finish up this year of online learning with a bang! We have some fun Mystery Science activities planned on the calendar this week! Just a heads up, one of the experiments asks the kids to taste test 4 different varieties of apples. If you are at the store this week and can provide them with 4 different types of apples that would be helpful (the assignment asks for Granny Smith, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious and Honey Crisp.) If you cannot do this, no worries! They will not be penalized for not doing the doc.

Mrs. Bagnall has a FUN end of the year activity for the kids. She has 8 staff members singing songs as the Masked Singer and wants the kids to vote for their favorite. Click on the link below to hear the singers and cast your votes!

Finally, I will provide you with information regarding report cards as soon as I have it!

Have a beautiful first week of June. 🙂

Hello everyone,

Tomorrow you will be able to come to Howard to collect your child’s belongings. The 3rd Grade distribution area will be along Lawrence Street. You will pull your car up, tell one of the staff members your child’s name and teacher and a bag with items from their desk will be brought to you. If you feel that your child is missing something that may still be in the classroom, please email me asap 🙂 I personally took their things our of their desk and bagged them up.

The only thing we are asking 3rd graders to return are any Howard School library books that may be at home. A lot of the kids had these in their desk or book box, but some may have books at home. You can give them to a staff member tomorrow. 🙂

Please see below for Mrs. Sabbagh’s note.

Good Evening Howard Families,

We hope that you and your loved ones enjoyed this holiday weekend and had time to take a break from the new norm of the “remote lifestyle.”    We are gearing up for the end of the school year and we wanted to give you a heads up about this coming Thursday, May 28th.  On Thursday, May 28th from 11:30-2:30 pm we will have a distribution of student belongings.  Students will receive personal belongings from their desks in a brown bag labeled with their name on it.  If you have a specific item that you are concerned about (i.e. jacket, eyeglasses etc…), please be sure to communicate with your child’s teacher so that we do not miss anything important.  Additionally, we will be asking that students return specific school belongings back to the school on this distribution day.  Your child’s teacher will communicate with you about what specific item(s) to return on that day, examples of items may include (LLI books, library books, reading bags, textbooks, instruments for 5th graders, and safety belts).  We will NOT be asking you to return Chromebooks at this time so please hang on to those for now.  You may come to the school anytime during the 3 hour time frame (11:30-2:30 pm) on May 28th.  It will be a drive-up format so please remain in your vehicles at all times. Drive-up locations around the school will be coordinated with normal after school pick-up locations.  Please see below for a reminder of where to drive-up depending on the grade-level(s) of your child(ren).  As a friendly reminder, parents and students are not allowed in the building for their safety so please remain in your vehicles at all times.  Thank you for your continued flexibility and patience during this unprecedented time.

Stay safe,
Mirvat Sabbagh

Well we are in the home stretch! I never, ever imagined that my year with your wonderful, smart, sweet children would end in this fashion. I am very sad about all the class time I have missed with them, the field trip to Oakwoods Metro Park and the One Room Schoolhouse at Greenfield Village that we didn’t get to take, our class picnic…..I could go on and on!! But instead of focusing on all of the negative, I want to focus on the positive. I have been blessed this year with an absolutely WONDERFUL, SUPPORTIVE group of parents, with 23 amazing students, who against all odds, did their very best to keep on learning. I do not know what the future of education holds, but it is my sincerest wish that we are back in the classroom in the fall and that parents can go back to some sense of normal with their child’s education. I thank you all for your perseverance through all of this.

We are being told that we are to plan for 2 more weeks of online learning. So your child will have assignments in his/her Google Classroom and on the attached assignment calendar this week and next.

Teachers will be in the buildings this week packing up classrooms 🙁 and emptying and bagging each student’s belongings :). These belongings can be picked up at the school (much the same way as the math book distribution) this Thursday and Friday. Please check the Howard School blog for information regarding pickup times. (I will also post again, when I hear the specifics)

I want to wish a very Happy Eid to all of those celebrating!

Week Of May 18th

Good morning! I hope you are all doing well and staying healthy. I am doing fine, I just truly miss being a REAL teacher! I want to interact with your children on a daily basis and guide their learning!

I hope you are able to access your child’s Google Classroom and see which assignments have been completed and graded. I go in and write comments and suggestions on work they turn in (except math because I am not able to do that) We are hoping to use a different format for exit tickets with the next module (7) so I can better individualize instruction. There will be more to come on that! This week will be the last week for Module 6.

Please check your child’s classwork, as 12 students did not turn in the Lesson 4 Social Studies Review (meaning they didn’t even attempt it) It may have just been missed in their stream so they will need to scroll back to May 11th to find it and do it.

I loved reading the Frog Reports that were turned in!! Your child has highlighted comments for revision. Please make sure they read over them, do the revisions and turn in their final copies for grades today.

I am very happy with how many of our classmates are still working very hard and doing the majority of their assignments! I know it’s not easy and certainly not the best way to learn, but I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for your dedication to your child’s education.

Reminder: This week is a 4 day week for learning and so is next week due to the Memorial Day weekend. That means no lessons on this Friday or Monday of next week.

Hi 🙂 Hopefully everyone is doing okay and the online learning is also going okay. PLEASE do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions or concerns. I am here to help and I want to help! :):)

I reset 9 students to Module 6 on Zearn (because they were still on Module 5) It is important that all students continue to use this program and keep pace with the assignments in Eureka Math. Your child should be at least on Module 6 lesson 4 at this point. If you are not sure where your child is feel free to send me a private email and I will let you know. Zearn is a GREAT tool to use in addition to our math program.

We tried to keep Monday, Wednesday and Friday easier with math this week so that Zearn could also be used on those days. 🙂

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our wonderful mothers! You deserve so much more this Mother’s Day because I know how stressful it has been for all of you to be both mothers and teachers these past few months. I am so grateful for all you have done to support our teaching efforts. (Dads too!!)

Mother’s Day went hand in hand with Teacher Appreciation for me and I feel doubly blessed! I can’t thank you enough for all of the wonderful surprises this week! (Virtual flowers, e-cards. photos, notes and gifts!) Your children are MY gift and I love being their teacher!! Although I would so much prefer not to be a “virtual teacher”, but to be spending time in the classroom everyday with them. I do hope that our online format is getting easier for both them and you to navigate! We are trying to change it up every week to give them variety in their learning, but we also know that with change comes frustration sometimes as they are opening new links and using new resources. Thank you for your patience and perseverance!

I wanted to attach a Google Slideshow to this post to share the results of our Puppy Traits Assignment with the class. I love teaching this section of science and I truly miss the ah-ha moments teaching science in a classroom!! https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1aeqs8xQrE4fSj0l6PSE0gRCO1elb0e5nsuyKm9NKk6A/edit#slide=id.p

Again, you will find the NEW assignment calendar for the week of May 11th attached to this blog AND in your child’s google classroom. They should continue to look in BOTH places each day. Assignments will be posted by 9 am on the day they are assigned. Please NEVER hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns. martinh@dearbornschools.org

Important! Math Book Distribution

Posted on

Parents,

Please read the attached post from Mrs. Sabbagh. We will be passing out Module 7 Math Books to all 3rd grade parents tomorrow. We realize the kids are now in Module 6, but it is a short Module and we anticipate them being in Module 7 before the end of the school year. We would like the kids to have the books for extra practice.

The reason we are not giving you Module 6 is because that book is part of the Module 5 book. The kids were already using those books and they are in their desks. We are able to give Module 7 because they are unused clean copies and are easy to distribute.
