Activities for June 1st

Wow, I can’t believe we are in June. I am so sorry that this is the way our school year is ending šŸ™ The end of the year is usually filled with fun and memorable activities. The school is having a pick-up for students materials today BUT you do not need to go for your PreK student if I didn’t contact you. There were just a couple of students with blankets still at school. If you have older children at McDonald make sure to look at the schedule that I posted in the last post to see when your pick-up time is. If you have more than one student you can pick up all of their items at the same time. For PreK students I will be doing one more drop-off at your house. I think I got to see 6 or 7 of you last time. Hopefully I will see even more this time. I will be coming sometime next week. I will keep you posted on the day and time. I have their work that they did in class as well as a PreK Certificate. This will be our last week of posted activities and next Monday I will post some summer ideas.

Here we go with our morning song to start our daily activities…

Letter of the Week

Our letter this week is letter R. Capital R and lowercase r. Rainbow, rock and raisin all start with that R sound.

Draw 2 things that start with the letter R. Write a R next to them.

Math

For math today we are going to look at our Weather Graph! I hope you have been tracking the weather. I have been working hard. Here is my graph. I recorded the weather from Monday to Sunday.

When you look at your graph, does it look the same as mine? If not that is okay! Sometimes it may rain in one area and not in another area. The weather is different all over. Count how many of each types of weather you have on your graph. I have one sunny day. Two rainy days (it didn’t rain all day but it did rain a little). Which type of weather did you have the MOST of? I had the MOST of partly cloudy and partly sunny days. There were 4 of those days. I had the LEAST of cloudy days. There were zero of those days. Make sure to talk about your graph and which weather you had the most of and which you had the least of. We can use graphs to help us do lots of math and practice lots of math words. Words like most, least, numbers and counting are all a part of math. We used this activity to do Science (weather tracking) and Math (counting and comparing).

Work Time

Planning Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s ability to organize their time by having them make a ā€œplanā€ with you about what they would like to play with.  Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Adults make plans all the time to organize their thoughts (shopping lists are made before going to the grocery store, to do lists are made to help plan your day etc..).

Work Time (45-60 minutes): During work time kids play WITHOUT ELECTRONICS.  Kids can use toys to pretend play, build, and create.

Clean Up (about 15 minutes):  Kids clean up the mess they have made while playing.

Recall Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s memory of events by having your child tell you what they did while they played (ask ā€œtell me how you did thatā€ or ā€œwhat did you do next?ā€)

Story Time

This is another one of our classroom books that we would have read 4 times and then put it out for the kids to read (retell) on their own. The title of the story is It’s Not Easy Being a Bunny.

We will be listening to this story again this week.

Shadows

Shadows are also a part of science and weather too. Many time shadows are created from the sun shining on something and that something is blocking the sun which creates a shadow. Here is a story about shadows…

Now it’s your turn to try to make shadows today. You can use a lamp or the light on a cell phone onto the wall. Can you make….Ā  -numbers -shapes -any letters -bunny ears -any other animals like they did in the book

Outside

The weather is supposed to be beautiful today and lots of sun so you could try to make shadows outside too. Here is a little tip…if the sun is right on top of you it will be hard to see a shadow because it will be right under you. You have to try at the right time of day, probably before noon or after 2:00.

Have a great day!
