Pop Art with Ms. Susie’s Class

My hand, for scale purposes!

And we just finished up these Andy Warhol flower paintings/collages….

5th Grade: Surrealism

Inspired by Rene Magritte’s Son of Man, 5th graders created a surreal self-portrait with an object covering their face that relates to their interests/personality. They were able to use crayon, marker, paint, or a combination.

4th Grade Donuts

The 4th grade is currently working with paper mache to create these delcious looking donuts!  We first twisted a piece of newspaper into a circle and secured it with masking tape. Then we added layers of newspaper scraps and art paste, ending with a layer of white paper towel. Finally, the donuts were painted with acrylic paint and topped with “sprinkles” made from colored rice.

Here are some finished examples!

Recognizing art and design in our daily lives

Students in 5th grade looked at examples of world currency and saw the amount of artistry, detail, and craftsmanship that goes into to creating a piece of money. They used a planning sheet with requirements to create a sketch and then transfered their idea to a final version.

4th grade used the example of candy wrappers for their project.  We talked about what makes you want to buy a new candy… Is it the colors on the package? The flavor description? What catches your attention?  Some classes are still finishing up, but here are two lovely examples!
