Reading and Writing: We are still reading informational texts and identifying the author’s main point. We are learning to highlight as well. For example, we often highlight the reasons that the author provides to support his main point. Additionally, we are looking at different texts on the same topic and identifying similarities and differences between the texts. WE are working on publishing our opinion papers and will begin writing an opinion paper on a different topic.
Math: Add within 100, including adding a two-digit number and a one-digit number, and adding a two-digit number and a multiple of 10, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to the written method and explain the reasoning used. Understand that in adding two-digit numbers, one adds tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose a ten.
Social Studies : We are learning about days of the week, months of the year, and how to read a calendar. I will attach a powerpoint that you can use for practice:-)
Behavior: Although we still have many school days left in our year together, many students are beginning to exhibit silly, off-task and unkind behavior. I have talked with them several times, and I think it would be helpful if you reviewed some of our expectations with your child at home. We have many fun activities planned for the end of the year, and I really want ALL children to participate. Let’s work together to ensure that the rest of our year is positive, productive, and happy. Thank you again for your continued support.
