Science:

Many of you did NOT do the Procedure (Steps) for your experiment on a Google document and give that to me… It was due already. I need that.

Do IXL H Sections 1-4 & NEWSLEA Article “Transfer of Energy in a Car Crash”. Same rules apply.

Here is a nice video on the difference between Potential & Kinetic Energy.

Science:

I am still taking the Procedure (steps to your experiment) up till the end of this week where it will be due on Friday April 17th. Spring Break!

Welcome to the 4th Quarter… I submitted grades Tuesday morning for 3rd quarter. I have assigned a few things this week for Social Studies & Science (see previous entry). As of today the District has not given us a clear plan on what the 4th quarter will look like in regards to grades. This will come before the 13th I am sure and is always a fluid situation. For now, everything is enrichment, but I would expect that to change. Therefore, I am not going to post anything until then.

Please enjoy your Spring Break, there will be no assignments, assessments or enrichment until after that; so enjoy the break. As always stay safe and healthy. Thank you for your patience. 🙂

Week 3 of DPS Shutdown

Happy Sunday!, so the word from the District & Administration is that anything assigned after March 13th and shutdown, only counts as enrichment. However, if it was assigned, discussed and/or directions were given beforehand it can count. A few examples for me were the Research Portion of the Science Experiment, the foldable, the Ancient China Test, and NEWSLEA’s. Therefore, I can not count IXL’s, the more recent TCI’s and NEWSLEA articles for 3rd quarter because they are considered enrichment. This is subject to change for 4th quarter, but we are not sure on what that will look like yet.

Please stay safe & healthy. 🙂 Any questions feel free to e-mail and I am still working on grades. Teachers have been told to finish and submit those by March 31st.

Social Studies:

We are doing Chapter 21 “Three Philosophies” so using your TCI https://www.teachtci.com/ I would like you to do the Notebook & the Lesson Game

Then watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvfOMhx3cj8.

Finally, do NEWSLEA Article #13 “Chinese Ancient Philosophies”.

Science:

Do IXL Part A #1 & #2.

Next, I want your Procedure (Steps to your Experiment) typed up and sent to me.  Now, you can do this in paragraph form (use transitions), or do it in a List format (step #1, #2, etc.)  This is up to you.  So at this point your Lab Report should have the following completed.

  • Proper Heading: Name(s), Date, Class
  • Title
  • Purpose
  • Research
  • Hypothesis
  • List of Materials
  • Procedure

*Note: Directions and samples are on My Blog on the Entry right before “Week 21 of School”

Week 2 of DPS Closing

Social Studies:

Take a picture of your Chapter 22 foldable and send it to me. Do the TCI lesson game and notebook sections for Chapter 21. “The Three Chinese Philosophies”

Science:

Try this experiment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KirHm_sYfI and then do IXL Letter I “Thermal Energy” sections #1 &2. Along with NEWSLEA Article #13 “Thermal Energy”. Lastly, type of your “List of Materials” for your experiment (make sure you include units of measurement; what I mean by that if you use water; how much did you use? (ounces, cups, etc.)) Then send it to me via e-mail for credit.

Thank you and if you have any questions please e-mail me. I still have about 8 or so of you that are NOT doing anything, haven’t responded to my e-mails or text messages.

Mr. Denison has an online Bryant STAFF Meeting scheduled for this Friday in the AM. I will have more answers to your questions about grades after that. However, the quarter does end Friday (27th) and we have been told that ALL teachers need their Report Cards done by March 30th. So continue to do everything that your teachers have assigned you and e-mail us for questions. Thank you… stay safe and healthy.

Week 1 of DPS Closing Continued…

Good Morning… I hope everyone is being productive, staying active, have a schedule, listening to your parents and are checking every teachers blog every day. Use this time to do somethings you may have never had time for or wanted too like start a journal, read a lengthy chapter book or two, write a book, create a comic book, construct the biggest Lego building ever, watch Frozen II, do a complicated puzzle, play board games, learn to cook, learn to do laundry, workout, draw, do a science experiment, etc. Here’s the thing… staying busy and keeping to a schedule similar to school is very very important. This is NOT a vacation from your education and by keeping up on that will help. I promise.

Social Studies:

We had our pre-scheduled test yesterday on Chapter 22… almost everyone took it, not sure why 10 students did not. Also, I corrected the one question; my fault I spelled it wrong on the answer key. So just like any test there is a re-take this Friday the 20th then it will be closed. Question? Did you do your foldable? That is due when we get back, however if you like to take a picture of it and send it to me then I can grade them promptly. We are now however moving forward with Chapter 21 “Three Chinese Philosophies” so for the next two weeks we are working on that. I have two assignments for you to work on. Read below…

Do the Lesson Game for Chapter 21 & then and do the Notebook section on TCI. We did these with the first two chapters back in the beginning of the year. I know they are not your favorite, but we need to cover Chapter 21 and 23. I will ultimately design a Kahoot! for you and then if we do go back in mid-April we will do a test on those two chapters together. Remember this situation is ever changing and very fluid.

Science:

I got a lot of students do their IXL assignments but not as much as I like, but that’s ok you have till Friday. I will start entering those grades tomorrow. Also, do those two NEWSLEA Articles that you may have not done. And continue to type of every component (part) that I assigned of the your Lab Report.

Lastly, I am checking my e-mails frequently. I have answered ever e-mail students and parents have sent me that need clarification on my classes. Please continue to do that. I want to assist you. 🙂 Be safe and healthy.

Week 1 of DPS School Closing

School Closing Information for Mr. Kerr’s Class

Dear Bryant Family:                                                               March 13th, 2020

As you already know Dearborn Public Schools will be closed until April 16th.  This situation is very fluid and is uncharted waters for not only the district, but the country.  Please be patient and allow somewhat of a learning curve.  I understand you may have anxiety.  I am also very aware your family and loved ones come first.  Therefore, I will do my very best to accommodate you and be flexible.   I believe in our leadership in DPS so please trust that we as District will do our very best to put students first and meet their needs.  Mr. Denison headed a staff meeting today with all Bryant teachers and then directed us to come up with a plan with our individual core subject teams.  We are currently working on that and may look different in each class and this is a process so it will take time.  What I do know you will need to check My Blog often for more information on how I will be doing online learning and assessments for this time off.  I believe that during this time off students and parents should be productive and have a schedule.  Here is so far what I need you to be aware of.

Science:

01. The Science retake for “7.3 Pretest & Post Test A” was scheduled today before and after school, since that didn’t happen, log on to iLearn and take that by Monday March 16th if you are not happy with your grade or didn’t finish it.

02. Also, I am reopening up the last quiz “7.3 Lessons 2-3 Quiz” as well and that will be opened till March 16th as well.

03. You will have to produce these components typed for your Lab Report for the Science Fair (more information to follow and this will be summative)

  • Question
  • Research
  • Hypothesis
  • List of Materials
  • Variables
  • Procedure

Social Studies:

01. I will collect the Foldable on Chapter 22 in Social Studies when we get back.

02. As mentioned last week we will still be having an iLearn Quiz on Tuesday on Chapter 22 and be opened for only a short time frame.

03. We will be finishing Chapter 22, do Chapters 21 & 24.

Misc.

  • I will post assignments and criteria every Monday.
  • I will be using iLearn, NEWSLEA, TCI, BrainPOP and IXL for assignments.
  • I will NOT assign anything over Spring Break.
  • I will use My Blog, e-mail and the Remind App to communicate with you.
  • Please be safe and abide by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services recommended strategies.

-Mr. Kerr
