Physical Education Class for the week of Nov 19th-20th

This will only be a two day week, so I will only see ten of my classes this week.  During the Kindergarten-2nd grade classes I see, I will continue to work on their locomotor skill (gallop k/1st and jump roping 2nd) during the first part of their class.  They all will work on their object control skill (dribbling) and the set-shot during the final part of their class.  The 3rd-5th grade classes will all play team handball during their class this week.  This is an olympic sport that I modify to play with my classes.  The game incorporates soccer and basketball skills, which are the two sports we have been focusing on during the first part of the school year.

I hope everyone enjoys their vacation and has a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Physical Education class for the week of Nov 5th-9th

This week, I will be switching all of my classes over to basketball.  The 4th and 5th grade classes will start the week by using the chromebooks to take a basketball unit pre assessment on google classroom.  This assessment will only be used to see what the students know about basketball before I start the unit.  They will take the assessment again after the completion of the unit to see if they have learned the information.  I will plan to give them a review before the final assessment.  Once the pre assessment is finished, I will have the students play a game for the remaining time.  During the second class of the week, the 4th and 5th grade classes will  learn and practice the hand dribble in a variety of ways.  The K-3rd grade classes will also learn and practice the hand dribble in a variety of ways during their class or classes this week.  There will be a few classes this week that will miss seeing me this week on Tuesday, because the students will not have school that day.  Next week, I will plan to focus on dribbling and passing with all of my classes.

Physical Education Class for the Week of Oct 29th-Nov 2nd

This will be a shorter week, because there is a half day on Friday.  It is also a week that I am between units.  This week, I will have the kindergarten-2nd grade students continue my hula-hoop unit and the 3rd-5th grade students will play my between unit games.  To start the unit, the the k-2nd grade students will learn a variety of individual skills with a hula hoop.  Then at the end of the unit the students will learn about and practice relay races using the hula hoops.  The 4th and 5th grade students will start the week with a soccer unit review in their journals and one of the games I usually play between units.  For the classes I see for a second time, I will play another between unit game.

Physical Education Class for the Week of Oct 22nd-26th

This week, I am going to be doing testing with all of my classes.  I like to use stations to test, so I am able to focus my attention on a small group of students.  When I am testing the students at one station the other students in the class are able to practice a variety of object control skills at the other stations.  During the stations, I will test all of the classes on the instep kick for soccer.  Each grade will have its own criteria for the skill.  For example, the 4th and 5th grade classes will be tested on specific steps of the skill and accuracy and the K-3rd will only be tested on the steps of the skill.  The K-1st classes will also be tested on hoping and the 2nd grade classes will be tested on galloping during the stations.  The testing will just take one class to finish with the 1st-5th grade classes, but it will take two classes to finish with Kindergarten.  During the second class of the week for the 3rd-5th graders, I will have them play a another game of sideline soccer.  This is a modified game of indoor soccer.

Physical Education Class for the Week of Oct 1st-5th

This week, I will continue to focus on the instep kick with all of my classes.  The students in all grades will get to kick into the soccer nets against a goalie in a variety of ways.  This will give them a chance to work on their aim with the instep kick.  The 3rd-5th grade classes will play my sideline soccer game during the second class of the week.  However, if it is nice enough to go outside the 4th and 5th grade class will get assessed on the 13 and 15 min runs.  Please have your child dress appropriately for the cool weather, so they are prepared to go outside.  We will go outside to run, unless it’s raining.

The kindergarten-2nd grade classes will also work on their locomotor skill for this marking period during the red line exercises and tagging games.
