Physical Education Class for the Week of Feb 25th-March 1st

This week, all of my 2nd-5th grade classes will all begin to play full court volleyball games.  I will modify the games for each grade level, so that they are appropriate for their ability level.  I will continue to play these games for the next two weeks.  My kindergarten and 1st grade classes will start my parachute unit this week.  This unit will last for the next two to three weeks.

February 20

Physical Education Class for the Week of Feb 19th-22nd

This week, I will continue to practice and review volleyball skills with all of my classes.  I will then play modified games with each class to give them a chance to practice the skills in a game.  The 3rd-5th grade classes will play a 2 vs. 2 modified game that will use many of the real volleyball rules.  This will help them prepare for the regular volleyball games next week.

February 4

Physical Education Class for the week of Feb 4th-8th

This week, I will continue to work on volleyball skills with all of my classes.  I will focus on the serve/underhand strike with the 3rd-5th grade classes.  Next, I will focus on the bump/forearm pass, set/overhead pass, and catching with the 2nd grade classes.  Finally, I will focus on a variety of throwing skills that are similar to volleyball skills and catching with the kindergarten and 1st grade classes.  I will also have the 4th and 5th grade classes take my basketball assessment and volleyball pre assessment on google classroom at the start of each of their classes this week.

January 29

Physical Education Class for the Week of Jan 28th-Feb 1st

This week, I will start my volleyball unit.  I will have the 3rd-5th grade classes learn and practice the underhand strike/serve in a variety of ways, during the first class of the week.  If I end up seeing a class for a second time this week, because of the weather, I will have those classes continue to learn and practice the underhand strike/serve in a variety of ways.  The kindergarten-2nd grade classes will also begin to practice volleyball skills that are appropriate for their ability level this week.

January 14

Physical Education Class for the Week of Jan 14th-18th

This week, I will plan to play my final sideline basketball games with my 3rd-5th grade classes.  The 3rd graders will play during both of their classes and the 4th/5th graders will only play it during one of their classes.  During the other class, my 4th and 5th grade classes will retake their jump rope assessment.  Once they are finished with the assessment I will have them play a throwing game.  The K-2nd grade classes will spend time learning and practicing their new locomotor skill for the 3rd marking period, which is sliding.  This skill is similar to the gallop, however, the students are moving sideways.  I will have them practice the skill during a variety of activities and tagging games.

January 8

Physical Education Class for the Week of Jan 7th-11th

This week, I am going to be doing assessments with all of my classes.  I like to use stations to assess, so I am able to focus my attention on a small group of students.  When I am testing the students at one station the other students in the class are able to practice a variety of object control skills at the other stations.  During the stations, I will test all of the classes on the hand dribble for basketball.  Each grade will have its own criteria for the skill.  For example, the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes will be tested on specific steps of the skill and a dribbling assessment.  The K-2nd will only be tested on specific steps of the skill.  The K-1st classes will also be tested on galloping and the 2nd grade classes will be tested on jump roping during the stations.  The testing will just take one class to finish with the 1st-5th grade classes, but it will take two classes to finish with Kindergarten.  During the second class of the week for the 3rd-5th graders, I will have them play a another game of sideline basketball game.  This is a modified game of basketball.

December 12

Physical Education Class for the Week of Dec 10th-14th

This week, my 3rd-5th grade classes will be playing lead-up basketball games (horse, lightning, and two person around the world) during both of their classes.  The 4th and 5th graders will also perform their first jump rope assessment this week.  The 4th graders will perform a 2 min. test and the 5th graders will perform a 3 min. test.  I will plan to reassess them after our winter break to give them another chance to get a higher number of jumps/better grade.  My K-2nd grade classes will play tagging games and practice a variety of skills with the scooters this week.

December 3

Physical Education Class for the Week of Dec 3rd-7th

The 1st-5th grade classes continue with practicing basketball skills this week.  The main skill I will work with all of my classes will be the set shot.  I will have the students practice this skill in a variety ways to help them improve their technique and aim.  Each class will perform it differently, so that it is developmentally appropriate for their ability level.  The kindergarten classes will start a new unit this week, which will be scooters.  I will have them learn and practice a variety of scooter skills.

November 26

Physical Education Class for the Week of Nov 26th-30th

This week, my kindergarten-2nd grade classes will work on the one handed push shot.   I will have the students practice this skill in a variety ways to help them improve on how they perform the skill.  Each class will perform it differently, so that it is developmentally appropriate for their ability level.  My 3rd-5th grade classes will continue to play team handball.  I will have all of the 3rd-5th grade classes play this game for the next two to three classes.   This is a sport that uses some of the skills we have learned about so far this school year and some that we will continue to practice as the year goes on.  It incorporates skills, such as, throwing, catching, passing, defensive guarding, and the goalie position.  Once we are finished with playing team handball, they will begin to learn about and practice the one handed push shot.
