November 30

Physical Education Class for the Week of Nov 30th-Dec 4th

This week I will be starting my basketball ball unit.  I will be focusing with dribbling during the first lesson of the week with all of my classes.  The students will get the opportunity to practice this skill in a variety of ways.  During the second classes of the week with my 3rd-5th grade classes, I will be mainly focusing on passing.  The student will learn how to do different passes with a partner and they will get a chance to use them in a passing game, called 10 passes.  I will also start to have my 3rd-5th grade classes practice for their jump rope test that I will be grading them on towards the end of the marking period.  The 3rd graders will take a 1 min. test, the 4th graders will take a 2 min. test, and the 5th graders will take a 3 min. test.  There are certain standards that each grade will have to reach for their grade on their report card.

November 23

Physical Education Class for the Week of Nov 23rd and 24th

This week all of my 3rd-5th grade classes will play their final game of team hand ball.  Then next week they will all start with learning and practicing basketball.  All of the classes I see the next two days will be 3rd-5th grade classes, except for one.   The one 1st grade class I see this week will start my basketball unit.  The first lesson will be on throwing, catching, and dribbling.

November 16

Physical Education Class for the Week of Nov 23rd-27th

This week I will have the Kindergarten students start with the first two lessons of my basketball unit.  They will be learning about the hand dribble and passing this week.  The 1st and 2nd grade classes will be continuing with using the hula hoops.  This week they will be learning about relay races and they will be practicing a hula hoop relay race during their class.  Then next week the 1st and 2nd grade will start with my basketball unit.  This week the 3rd-5th grade classes will be learning about and playing an Olympic sport, called team handball.  I will have all of the 3rd-5th grade classes play this game for the next two to three classes.   This is a sport that uses some of the skills we have learned about so far this school year and some that we will about as the year goes on.  It incorporates skills such as throwing, catching, passing, defensive guarding, and the goalie position. Once we are finished with practicing game, they will begin with my basketball unit.

I want to take a moment to congratulate the two classes that won my sportsmanship chart this marking period.  Mrs. Korte’s class won for the 1st and 2nd grades and Mrs. Pischke’s class won it for the 3rd-5th grades.  Each class receives a trophy to put inside their classroom and a certificate to hang up in the hallway.  They will keep these two things until the end of the second marking period, unless they end up winning it again.  I give this sportsmanship award to the class that ends up with the most points at the end of each marking period.  The classes start with 10 points when they walk in the gym.  Each class can either lose or gain points from the start to the end of each class depending on how the class or individual students follow the rules I have for my class.

November 10

Physical Education Class for the week of Nov 9th-13th

This week, I will continue my football unit with all of the 3rd-5th grade classes.  My plan is to teach the students the basics of football through a variety of drills and games.  The classes will end the unit with a defensive back drill that has the students pull flags and score points.  This unit will be short and will only last two weeks.  I will also continue my hula-hoop unit with the Kindergarten-2nd grade classes this week.  For the first class of the week for kindergarten they will be doing a variety of individual skills with hoop.  Then on the second class of the week, the kindergarten classes will be doing hula-hoop relay races.  For the 1st and 2nd grade classes, they will be practicing their second class of individual hoop skills, because they only come to see me one time a week.  The hula-hoop unit will also be a short unit, that will only last two or three weeks.

November 2

Physical Education Class for the Week of Nov 2nd-Nov 6th

This will be a short week, because we there is no school on Tuesday and there is a half day on Friday.  This week, I will be making a transition to my new units.  I will have the kindergarten-2nd grade students start my hula-hoop unit and the 3rd-5th grade students will start my football unit.  The lower elementary students will learn a variety of individual skills with a hula hoop.  Then at the end of the unit the student will learn about and practice relay races using the hula hoops.  The upper elementary students will start the week with one of the games I usually play between unit.  Some of the classes will only see me once or not at all, because of the time off we have during the week.  For the second class of the week, for the classes I actually see twice, I will start my football unit.  This unit will mainly focus on throwing and catching.  To finish this unit, I will have a drill that uses flag belts and the student will keep track of their score.

October 26

Physical Education Class for the Week of Oct 26th-Oct 30th

This week, I am going to be doing testing with all of my classes.  I like to use stations to test, so I am able to focus my attention on a small group of students.  When I am testing the students at one station the other students in the class are able to practice a variety of object control skills at the other stations.  During the stations, I will  test all of the classes on the instep kick for soccer.  Each grade will have it’s own criteria for the skill.  For example. the 3rd-5th grade classes will be tested on specific steps of the skill and accuracy.  The K-1st classes will also be tested on hoping and the 2nd grade classes will be tested on galloping during the stations.  The testing will just take one class to finish with the 1st-5th grade classes, but it will take two classes to finish with Kindergarten.  Then for the second class of the week for the 3rd-5th graders, I will have them play a another game of sideline soccer.  This is a modified game of indoor soccer.

October 19

Physical Education Class for the week of Oct 19th-23rd

This week the students are going to continue to practice soccer.  I am going to mainly going to focus on the instep kick, because I will be testing all classes on it next week during stations.

I will also have the k-2nd grade students continue to practice hopping (k-1st) and galloping (2nd), because they will be tested on it during the stations next week.

During the last class of the week for my 3rd-5th grade classes they will be playing a modified indoor soccer game, I call sideline soccer.  This will be as close as I get to have the students play a real soccer game.

I will also be collaborating with all three of the 3rd grade teachers this week on a science lesson.  On Monday and Tuesday, I will be teaching the students about friction and forces.  I will talk to them about the concepts and I will have the students practice how they work using tug-of-war ropes in a variety of ways.

October 14

Physical Education Class for the Week of Oct 12th-16th

This week for soccer all of the classes k-5th grade will be learning and practicing passing, kicking, and the goalie position.  The kick will be the instep kick.  To perform the instep kick correctly they will be using their shoe laces to connect with the ball.  This is the kick they will tested with each grade level.  It will be taught and practiced in a variety of ways, so that it is developmentally appropriate for all grade levels.

The lower elementary classes K-2nd grade will also learn and practice the loco-motor skill that they will be tested on this marking period.  The K-1st graders will work on the hop and the second graders will work on the gallop.

The 4th and 5th grade classes will also continue to run laps around the gym to help prepare them for the Cipriano Memorial Run that will be this Sat, Oct 17th at Ford Field.
