4th and 5th Grade Fitness Test (Sit and Reach) 3rd Marking Period

The 4th and 5th graders will be tested and graded on the sit and reach for their physical fitness test for the 3rd marking period. This test is a measure of flexibility. The standards are listed below:

Personal/Social Skills 3rd Marking Period

The 1st – 3rd graders will learn about the personal/social skill cooperation throughout the 3rd marking period.  I will constantly remind the students using the poster on the gym wall about the different ways that they should use cooperation.

The 4th and 5th graders will learn about the personal/social skill respect for self and others throughout the 3rd marking period.  I will constantly remind the students using the poster on the gym wall about the different ways that they should use respect their self and others.  I will have both grades write in their journals about respect and the different way to use it.  They will also write sentences in their journals about how they have had respect in their own life.

These personal/social skills will be used as a main part of the students grade for sportsmanship on their report card.

February 13

3rd Marking Period Report Card

The Kindergarten-2nd graders will be graded on the slide for the locomotor skill and catching a fly ball for the the object control skill. Next, the third graders will be graded on the jump rope for the object control skill. Finally, the 4th and 5th graders will be graded on the sit and reach test for flexibility for the physical fitness skill and the underhand strike/serve for the object control skill.

All classes will be learning a personal/social skill for this marking period. This will be part of their sportsmanship grade. The Kindergarten-3rd grades will learn about cooperation and the 4th and 5th graders will learn and write in their journals about respect.

Physical Education Class for the Week of Feb 12th-16th

This week, I will continue my volleyball unit.  I will have the 3rd-5th grade classes learn and practice the set/above the head pass in a variety of ways, during the first class of the week.  During the second class of the week, I will have those same classes practice all three of the main volleyball skills (serve, bump, and set), during drills and lead-up games.  The kindergarten-2nd grade classes will also continue to the practice volleyball skills that are appropriate for their ability level this week.

Physical Education Class for the Week of Feb 5th-9th

This week, I will start my volleyball unit.  I will have the 3rd-5th grade classes learn and practice the underhand strike/serve in a variety of ways, during the first class of the week.  During the second class of the week, I will have those same classes learn and practice the forearm pass/bump in a variety of ways.  The kindergarten-2nd grade classes will also begin to practice volleyball skills that are appropriate for their ability level this week.

January 30

Physical Education Class for the week of Jan 29th-Feb 2nd

I will have my 4th-5th grade classes start the week by writing in their journals and playing a sideline basketball game.  They will be learning and writing about the third marking period personal/social skill, which is respect for others.  The second class of the week, I will have them write in their journal again to review the basketball unit.  Once we are finished with the review, I will have them play a between unit game for the rest of the class.  The 3rd graders will learn about their third marking period personal/social skill, which is cooperation during the first class of the week.  Once we are finished, I will have them play a between unit game.  I will also have them play a between unit game for the second class of the week.  The Kindergarten-2nd grade classes will learn and practice their locomotor skill for this marking period, which is the slide.  I will have them practice it during a variety of games and activities.  To finish the class, they will continue to practice the animal scoots during the scooter races.

January 16

Physical Education Class For the Week of Jan 16th-19th

This week, I  will be testing all of the students on the object control skill and locomotor skill for this marking period during stations.  This will only be a four day week, because of the Martin Luther King holiday on Monday.  This means that some of my Monday 3rd-5th grade classes will only see me once this week, so these classes will only have stations this week.  The locomotor skill for Kindergarten and 1st is galloping and the locomotor skill for 2nd grade is Jump Roping.  The object control skill for all grades is the hand dribble for basketball.  This skill will be assessed in different ways for each grade level.  The 3rd-5th grade classes will play a sideline basketball game during the second class this week. The kindergarten classes will spend both classes this week finishing the stations.

Physical Education Class for the Week of Dec 18th-22nd

I will have 3rd-5th grade classes continue to practice the hand dribble, passing, and shooting during their first class of the week.  They will then play holiday games during the second class of the week.  The Kindergarten classes will practice the hand dribble, shooting, and galloping during their first class of the week.  They will then also play holiday games during their second class of the week.  The 1st and 2nd grade classes will play holiday games during their class this week.
