Physical Education Class for the Week of Oct 8th-12th

This week, my 4th and 5th grade classes will either perform the 13/15 min run assessment or they will play a sideline soccer game in the gym, depending on the weather.  The 3rd graders will play a sideline soccer game during one of their classes this week.  Then, during the other class, I will have them learn about force and friction for science by pulling the the tug-of-war rope in a variety of ways.  This is a lesson that I have been teaching the last few years and it gives the students the opportunity to actually see and feel these concepts in action when they use the tug-of war rope.  Next, The 1st and 2nd grade classes will continue to work on the hop/gallop and the instep kick during a variety of drills and games.  Finally, the kindergarten classes will start a hula hoop unit this week.  During the unit they learn and practice multiple ways that they can use the hula hoop to stretch, balance, and exercise.
