Physical Education Class for the Week of Jan 28th-Feb 1st

This week, I will start my volleyball unit.  I will have the 3rd-5th grade classes learn and practice the underhand strike/serve in a variety of ways, during the first class of the week.  If I end up seeing a class for a second time this week, because of the weather, I will have those classes continue to learn and practice the underhand strike/serve in a variety of ways.  The kindergarten-2nd grade classes will also begin to practice volleyball skills that are appropriate for their ability level this week.

Physical Education Class for the Week of Jan 14th-18th

This week, I will plan to play my final sideline basketball games with my 3rd-5th grade classes.  The 3rd graders will play during both of their classes and the 4th/5th graders will only play it during one of their classes.  During the other class, my 4th and 5th grade classes will retake their jump rope assessment.  Once they are finished with the assessment I will have them play a throwing game.  The K-2nd grade classes will spend time learning and practicing their new locomotor skill for the 3rd marking period, which is sliding.  This skill is similar to the gallop, however, the students are moving sideways.  I will have them practice the skill during a variety of activities and tagging games.

Physical Education Class for the Week of Jan 7th-11th

This week, I am going to be doing assessments with all of my classes.  I like to use stations to assess, so I am able to focus my attention on a small group of students.  When I am testing the students at one station the other students in the class are able to practice a variety of object control skills at the other stations.  During the stations, I will test all of the classes on the hand dribble for basketball.  Each grade will have its own criteria for the skill.  For example, the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes will be tested on specific steps of the skill and a dribbling assessment.  The K-2nd will only be tested on specific steps of the skill.  The K-1st classes will also be tested on galloping and the 2nd grade classes will be tested on jump roping during the stations.  The testing will just take one class to finish with the 1st-5th grade classes, but it will take two classes to finish with Kindergarten.  During the second class of the week for the 3rd-5th graders, I will have them play a another game of sideline basketball game.  This is a modified game of basketball.
