***When you finish this activity you are to make sure your packet is finished, staple the brochure to your packet and turn this work along with extra credit by Monday September 16th.

6th Grade:

Students are completing their unit on measuring and transitioning into their unit on Technology and inventions

7th Grade:

Students are completing their unit on measuring and will begin working on their next unit on Egg Crash Vehicles in which they will learn about safety in a vehicle.

8th Grade:

Students will begin their unit on careers. We will look at various careers in technology that are popular among students. Students will then research a career they are interested in and display their knowledge by creating a brochure which displays information about their career.

Students will need to have the follwing information on their brochure:

Name of the career

Why this career is a good choice?

What the basic job skills are of this career?

What is the median pay?

What is the job outlook 10 years from now?

Which schools are best for this career and what degree do you need?

Where can someone get more information about the career?

Happenings for September 9th-13th

8th Grade:

This week we are completing our unit on measuring skills. Students are to have completed their Google slide show demonstrating aspects of measuring from what each mark on an inch means to how measuring is used in industry. Completed packets are due by the end of the hour on Tuesday. Beginning on Wednesday we will begin our next unit on careers. We will take a look at what careers use technology (spoiler: they all do) and then create a brochure which will give information to someone else about that career including the definition, the average salary, what degree is required, which schools are best for that career and what the job outlook will be in 10 years.

7th Grade:

Students are finishing up their unit on measuring skills by creating two-dimensional objects which were made by measuring lengths. Completed packets are due by Tuesday, at the end of the hour.

Our next unit begins on Wednesday and is on safety in a vehicle. Students will spend two and a half weeks researching and then building a vehicle which will hold a raw egg and then let it travel down a ramp to hit a barrier.

Last happenings for the 2018-2019 school year!

Good morning all and happy last week of school! It went by so fast! I am so excited for all of our 8th graders who will be in high school next year, I know you will make new friends and do your best. I wish you great success in high school and please feel free to come by and say hi and let me know how you are doing in school.

6th and 7th graders I am excited to see you next year. We have many fun activities to do in class next year, I hope you can join us.

This week we have notebooks due for all grade levels on Tuesday!!!

Final grades should be posted by Thursday. Do not wait until Wednesday to ask how you can improve your grade. Remember that extra credit is offered with every unit and is due upon completion of the unit. Here are some things to prepared for this week:

Tuesday the 11th: Notebooks due. We have an abbreviated schedule due to the wheels assembly on this day. 8th Grade honors assembly is in the evening. 6th grade will be testing out board games today.

Wednesday the 12th: my 7th and 8th graders will be cleaning out their trays, under the tables and doing some minor clean up. 6th and 7th grade students will have their honors assembly on this day as well. We will complete board game testing today so that all groups can play each others games and evaluate them.

Thursday the 13th:

All projects returned and must be picked up today. We will be working in the computer lab on coding games or games of students choice.

Friday and the 14th:

1/2 day. Have a fantastic summer everyone. Please be safe and I look forward to seeing you in August!

Happenings for May 28th-June 7th (no school June 3rd-5th)

8th Grade:

Students are doing an awesome job creating their serving trays made from pallet wood. Students should be completed with the build by Friday. Students who wish to paint their project should bring in their own tempera paint by May 31st. Trays which are not painted will not lose any points, this is optional.

7th Grade:

Last week we assembled the support structure of our paper coasters and this week our focus is on the tracks and completing the theme of our coasters. Coaster testing for time in three sections of the track is on the 6th, final coaster testing will be on the 7th.

6th Grade:

Students are finishing up their board game activities this week. Boards must be finished by Friday so that they can be tested by the group on the 6th and then by other groups in class on the 7th.

8th Grade:

Students have begun their unit on wood buidling and are almost finished with their sanding blocks which will be used to sand their upcoming activity, serving trays. Students will have three days this week, four days next week and 2 days the week after to complete this activity.

  • note all projects must be picked up by June 12th.
  • Notebooks are due the last week of school.

7th Grade:

Students have been working so well on their paper coaster structure. This week groups should be completed with the columns, beams and diagonal supports and start assemblng their tracks for their marble to travvel on.

6th Grade:

We begin this week by designing our game boards. Students have already formed their groups and our focus for this week is to begin the board design and the basic set of rules.  We have 4 days this week and 4 days next week to construct the board and rules and then June 6th and 7th are set aside for final changes and then testing the games out.

Happenings for May 13th-17th

8th grade:

Students will spend this week finishing up their tool, machine safety unit by creating a safety poster on Monday, reviewing for the safety test on Tuesday and Wednesday and taking the test on Thursday.

7th grade:

Students will continue to work in their groups today on our structure unit. This week they will be cutting and assembling their pieces for their coaster design. This week we build the columns and beams, next week we build the tracks.

6th Grade:

Students continue to present their awesome invention research to the class. Later this week we will begin our new unit on game board design!

Happenings for April 29th – May 3rd

8th Grade:

Students will be finishing ou their unit on manufacturing this week by completing their   commercials on their shoe designs. We will be watching our shoe commercials this coming Thursday and Friday and evaluate each others commercial.

7th Grade:

This week we will be finishing up our unit on architecture by making our house models. Students also have the opportunity to get 10 points extra credit just by creating a landscape on their model. Extra credit is also available in the unit packet. The model, unit packet and extra credit are all due on Friday. Our next unit is on structures and design.

6th Grade:

Students are beginning their unit on inventions and history. This week we will be researching an invention we would like to learn more about. Students will begin taking notes and then starting their one page, double spaced paper on their invention. Students will be including who the inventor is, when the invention was created, where it was invented, other inventions related to theirs and finally, some fun facts about hteir invention.

  • Late start this Wednesday

8th Grade:

Our focus this week will be on creating a commercial for our shoes. Students will need to have a picture of their shoe model taken and then Mrs. Fulton will email you the pictures for you to download and put into your power point commercial. Our goal is to complete our commercials by next Wednesday so that we can spend next Thursday and Friday watching and evaluating our commercials.

7th Grade:

We continue our unit on architecture this week by focusing on our floor plan on paper using the scale of 1/4″ = 1′. Drawings should be completed by Wednesday and then students will start their model later this week. Our architecture unit should be complete by next Friday.

6th Grade:

We have just completed our measuring unit and will spend this week working on our next unit on invention and history.

8th Grade:

This week we will be finishing up our shoe models and then work our way into creating a commercial for our shoes. Students have already completed their storyboards and will use these to make their commercials.

 

7th Grade:

This week we will continue to work on our floor plans on the computer. Many students should be finished by Wednesday. Thursday we will work on how to scale our drawings from the computer to draw onto a large sheet of paper.

 

6th Grade:

We continue with how to measure this week. Students play measuring games on Monday, will practice how to measure objects on Tuesday, and make a ruler on Wednesday and Thursday and turn in their measuring packet in Thursday.
