Suggested Work for the Week of March 23rd.

Please find below the list of suggested tasks for the week. During this time away from school, it is important to keep learning and it’s VERY important to keep reading. All assignments and comment threads are posted in google classroom.

As always, please email me if you have any questions.

Suggested Work for the Week of March 23rd

  1. Do some research on the colleges you have an interest in attending in the future.  Follow the guidelines in the google classroom assignment to compare/contrast and then post your findings in the discussion thread.  You will also come back throughout the week and leave questions/comment on other students’ findings.
  1. If you have not done so yet, you can watch the “Flowers for Algernon” movie from 2000, starring Matthew Modine.  If you have access to Amazon Prime, you can watch it there; it is also available for free on youtube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5B7En7qg6rg.

I have posted a discussion thread on google classroom for you to share your thoughts on the movie (favorite part, most confusing part, most “different from the book” part…..).

SSR Reading

  1. Read daily. I suggest 30 minutes a day. You can make daily annotations on sticky notes, your phone, or notebook paper to help increase your comprehension. See the bookmark posted on Google Classroom under SSR weekly reflections for sentence starters/ideas.
  2. At the end of the week (anytime up until Sunday) write an SSR Weekly Reflection (posted on Google Classroom).

Note : If you do not have your novel at home, or you are expecting to finish it soon, you may use any online platform available to you for access to books, or use my favorite, cheap, online book site to buy a book, or two.  I have included some links below to help you get started, and the first 5 people (new customers only) to use the first Thriftbooks link will receive an additional 15% discount on their book purchase. If you have a Dearborn or Dearborn Heights library card you may get ebooks from the library, as well.

Work for “Shutdown” Week #1

Please go to google classroom to find a list of assignments for you to do this week.
Please do your best to get the work done by Friday, March 20th. Please read all directions, thoroughly and email me with questions.

For anyone who had missing/late work that was due prior to today, AND it is something that you can submit electronically, it is also due by Friday. Any other missing assignments will count as zero, unless I determine there were extenuating circumstances involved, in which case the assignment will be dropped.

Literary Letter

I AM POSTING THIS FOR THOSE WHO NEED IT.

Find attached the instructions for the literary letter. Everyone got a copy of this earlier this school year, but I have attached a copy for those who do not have it at home.

All students must complete a literary letter by Friday, March 20th, to get full credit for the 3rd cm.  Please see full directions and submission information in google classroom.

Flowers for Algernon (almost) Full Text

FFAfulltext (1)

This is the PDF text of “Flowers for Algernon”. Please use this for the “Nuremberg Code” work, if you do not have your textbook at home.
It is not exactly the same as our book, but it is very close and should help.

You may also use this to finish up your packet, as I plan to collect them upon our return to school in April.

Please let me know if there are any questions.

Corriveau’s Classwork Information

Good morning,

As you all have heard, we will not be meeting at school for the next several weeks.  This does not mean we will stop learning, though.  Beginning Monday, March 16th, I will be posting assignment information here, on the blog. Until then, and throughout this “break”, you should be doing your required reading at home.

Please check back to the blog frequently to keep up with classroom expectations.

As always, please email me with any questions that you have.

“Difference Maker” Final Project

On Wednesday, February 5th, all students were assigned a “difference maker” to research and given the details of the project expectations. Students were also given roughly 60 minutes of class time, the last two days, to work on research and presentations in class. All remaining work must be done at home. Please find attached the direction sheet with rubrics for this assignment. Please note-this is a 50 POINT SUMMATIVE assessment and will weigh heavily on their grade.
All students choosing to do the slide show option must submit their completed project to Google Classroom by 8 am Tuesday and those doing the scrapbook option must bring the completed page to class with them on Tuesday.
Any project not submitted by Tuesday (as stated above) will receive reduced points.

Students have/will sign up for their presentation time slot today and should be prepared to present next week on their selected day.

Please email me with any questions that you may have.
