Literary Terms Project-Part 1

On Monday, all students received the following assignment, as well as all of the paper needed to complete it. They should all have a construction paper covered booklet at home this weekend, if they have not completed it.
This is a reminder that the assignment is due on Monday, when they walk into class.
Literary Terms, “part one” task, is worth 40 formative points and turning it in is a requirement to be eligible for the “part two” SUMMATIVE portion, which will be assigned next week.

Please email me with any questions.

Last Call for Anne Frank Field Trip

Due to today’s snow day, I will accept money and permission slips tomorrow for the Anne Frank Play field trip.
Many students have not paid yet, or have said they don’t intend to go.
Be aware that this is a learning experience and any student who chooses not to attend is still expected to be in school that day. All students not attending the play, whether in school, or not, will be required to complete an alternate assignment related to the life and death of Anne Frank.
More details of the trip and a permission slip can be found in a prior post.
Email me with any questions.

Holocaust Homework-LAST DAY (to turn it in late)

Today is the last day to get partial credit for work on Newsela, from Thursday and Friday. This work is related to the Holocaust and is the building block for what we are learning this week and next. Timing is critical in the lessons to be learned from this material.

Students who were absent on Thursday, or Friday, have until tonight to turn it in with no penalty. All work must be completed BY MIDNIGHT.

See Friday’s post for more details.

Newsela “Holocaust” Homework

Below is the assignment given in class on Thursday, February 7th. Students were given SOME class time, each day, to work on this 2 part assignment. Students were encouraged to complete part one on Thursday, as both part one and two are due by midnight tonight.
Any work not received by midnight will receive reduced credit.

Holocaust Background Information
Read both articles at your current lexile level. If you are unsure what that is, please ask me.

Using your annotation guidelines, from the beginning of the year, you will need to annotate the article(s), with a minimum of 3 annotations from each category (questions, comments, connections, predictions and inferences), as well as highlight any “new to you” vocabulary. Please try to stay as close to the colors assigned at the beginning of the year as possible (I will show you how to layer colors) and follow all other directions given on your “Annotation Guidelines”. To be eligible for full credit, you MUST read at your level and all annotations must be in complete sentences.
Begin each part in class and then finish at home tonight. You must also complete the quiz and writing for each of the articles. You may only attempt the quiz and writing ONE time, or the result will be reduced credit.

Flowers for Algernon Packet and Test Information

Students have been reading Flowers for Algernon for the last two weeks, as well as working on a packet of daily assignments. This assignment and a calendar of due dates is in a prior post. On Tuesday and Wednesday, ALL students will take a two part test. They have known about the test date(s) from the beginning, so absences this week do not delay their test date. The packet is their study guide and is worth 60 points. They should also study previously returned vocabulary work. The packet is due, completed, at the beginning of class on Tuesday, January 22nd.

Please find attached the pages of the packet for any student who has misplaced theirs.
