Classwork for 04-17-20

Hi everyone! Today’s assignment is to… Catch up on anything you are missing! Spend this time to catch up on missing assignments from before we left school, the assignments since we’ve left school, and in particular this week’s assignments.

I LOVE the work I am getting from you! I know these are trying times and it has been stressful keeping up. I appreciate all of you and all of the work you are doing! Thank you to all of you who have continued to reach out to me, check on me/my family, and to those who have responded to my messages asking how you are doing. It truly makes my day to hear from you and I look forward to our new adventures starting next week. We will hopefully be seeing more of each other virtually in the future. The information will be sent out ASAP on the new guidelines and expectations. Please continue to check your school email, my Remind (@ConnorsFHS), and here on my iBlog for more information!

Please reach out if you need any help on the assignments. We will be continuing the Reflection Activity sheet format from this week for the rest of the semester. Posts will happen on Mondays and you will have the week to read the articles and fill out the Reflection Activity sheet for the week. We are looking into interesting articles for you to read and learn from for the next few chapters in the textbook.

If you would like to read more about the 1950s here are some interesting topics to check out:

Keep checking my iBlog for more updates! I look forward to seeing you soon. Have a great weekend! Looks like we might be able to make snowmen (and women?) by the end of today!

Classwork for 03-25-20

I hope you are all doing well. Please continue to check in if you need help or are unsure of what to do on assignments.

We are going to work on a Cold War Document Based Questions (DBQ) packet for the next few days. This packet will be due by Monday, 03-30-20. It will take you a few days to read through and answer the questions. These documents are going to be the 1st part of a multistep process.

Part I: Cold War DBQ packet
Part II: Developing your argument based on the DBQ packet
Part III: Writing a 2 paragraph microargument with multiple pieces of evidence and reasoning from the DBQ packet

Our guiding questions for each step is:
Which side, the United States and its Western allies, or the Soviet Union and its allies in the East, was more responsible for starting the Cold War?

The assignment is on iLearn under Chapter 18: The Cold War. I have also posted it on here for you to download. Just like with the TED Talk video questions from Monday make sure you click “File” then “Make a Copy” for your Google Drive. You can either share your DBQ answers with me or you will find a spot on iLearn where you can paste your answers or the link to your answers for me to grade.

Here is the Cold War DBQ Packet for Part I.

Classwork for 03-24-20

Hi everyone. This is just a reminder that the assignment from yesterday is do tomorrow, Wednesday, 03-25-20. Please do your best to catch up on any missing assignments on iLearn. The assignments are listed below.

Assignments:
1.) Introduction to the Cold War; video & question
2.) Japanese Internment Camps: articles, primary sources, & 3 questions
3.) Conversation with a Family Member: answer questions
4.) Japanese Internment Camps: TED Talk by George Takei & questions

A reminder from Mrs. Alcodray & our FHS Staff:
Hello Students,
I just wanted to update you on the fast-moving situation regarding our online classes. This afternoon, Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed her “dismay” about the Michigan Department of Education’s statement, releasing her own statement assuring educators and parents that this time could possibly count. The MDE released its original statement because in order for our time to count, the Michigan legislature must change the law; the MDE has no power here. So what does that mean for us? *It is very possible—even likely—that our time online will count. So keep working.* Our state lawmakers do not want to anger parents and educators across the state. So let’s keep our momentum going.
