Wednesday 10/09

  • Bell work: SAT Practice special cases (see attached)
  • We started chapter 1 today and I like to start this chapter with a self assessment matching activity. (attached)
  • Then students worked on filling in the graphs and features of the 12 basic functions
  • Homework: Use your textbook and any additional resources you would like to fill in the graphs and features of the 12 basic functions.
  • Also do practice problems p106#1-12. Make sure you copy down the graph as well as the equation you pick.

Tuesday 10/08

  • Bell work: Quiz review, answering students’ questions
  • Today students took Chapter P Quiz 2 ( sections 5,6,7)
  • I passed around and checked SAT daily app questions for extra credit summative. Not too many of you benefited from this great opportunity to earn points.
  • Here are some notes about the SAT daily app:
  • You cannot use archived questions
  • You have to write down (or print) the question
  • Annotate (just as we do daily in our bell work)
  • show your work
  • Correct it in colored pen using the hint and answer key given

Tomorrow we will be starting chapter 1 FINALLY! we start this chapter with section 3 for a reason.

Tuesday Chapter P Quiz 2

  • I decided that this will be a quiz and not a test
  • It will cover the sections that you were not quizzed on (section 5,6 and 7)
  • I will not include questions from sections 1,2 and 4 that were included in Quiz 1.
  • The quiz will be no calculator for 30 min then you get to use the calculator for the last 10 min (remember we did an objective that requires the use of calculator: solve quadratic inequalities graphically)
  • Chapter P quiz 2 will go on the next card marking: MP2
  • For MP1 we had 2 summative grades: Chapter P quiz 1 and SAT quiz 1
  • Here are the I can statement for Tuesday’s Quiz:
  1. I can solve absolute value equations graphically (example 7 p45 Practice problem p 46#40,41)
  2. I can add, subtract, multiply and divide complex numbers ( section P6 practice problems p 52-53#1-20, 33-40)
  3. I can solve quadratic inequalities graphically and algebraically (section P7 practice problems p 58#9-26)

Good Luck! Remember we review math by redoing the problems not by reading them. Redo on your own and compare to corrections done in class, then self assess reflect and move on. Math is about PRACTICE!

Friday 10/04

Today students took the first SAT Quiz. It was no calculator, 10 questions for 15 min. If you were ABSENT check with me on Monday to schedule a makeup day.

  • When students finished the quiz, they started working on the homework p 58#17-26 to graph quadratics and solve quadratic inequalities.
