5/4-5/8
Each day, students should focus on one special area. Our special area classes are a great opportunity for students to get a break from core subjects, supplement core subjects, and enrich their lives. We will collect and grade work on a weekly basis.
Monday – Media
This weekend is a special one for Moms! It’s Mother’s Day. I think creating a special Google Drawing for Mom would be really nice. Your assignment will be in Google Classroom and will need to be accessed by Clever on the student page of Dearbornschools.org. You will either create your own poem or use one of the poems included in your assignment and then decorate your Google Drawing.
Tuesday – Art
Wednesday – Enrichment
Thursday – Music
The San Francisco Orchestra has a very cool website where you can play games and learn about the orchestra. Mrs. Lograsso can give you a tutorial on how to explore the website here. Please explore the families of the orchestra. Keep the window open after you are exploring to answer the questions on the google form here.
Other ways to participate: I am posting one mystery song a day on my blog! Ask family/friends, use Google or Youtube, and figure out the name of the song and artist! When you think you know the answer, email the name and artist to me. Every right answer will earn you one raffle ticket. At the end of the year, I will pull a ticket and drop off a prize at that student’s house! You can also earn a ticket by watching a Read Aloud on the blog and emailing me the main character and main idea of the story.
Links can always be found on my blog at Mrs. Lograsso’s Music. I am always available by email at lograsm@dearbornschools.org. I will be holding office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am to noon. Email me to set up a phone call or video chat during that time.
Friday – PE
Hi boys and girls,
I’d like to start by saying that I am so happy will all the students who are watching my lessons and working out. I know it is not easy to keep up with all that you have going on, but I also know that you are all Geer Park Stars and that you strive for success. Well done everyone!
I’d also like to add that I’m glad that many of you are going on to my blog and are filling out the fitness log. If you have done this you know it only takes a minute to complete. Again, well done. I am proud of you. Mrs. Masiarczyk’s PE Blog
Now for this week’s lesson:
This week I have a two part video. The first is an arts and craft activity. We will be making bean bags. Here is a list of everything you will need:
- 3 or 4 snack or sandwich lunch baggies
- rice, beans, or lentils (pick one type)
- 2 pair of small socks
- tape
Now watch the video and let’s make some bean bags together.
How to make a homemade bean bag
Now that you have a few bean bags there are many activities you can do with them.
Some examples are:
Juggling
Use as a hacky sack
Tossing and catching
Tossing into a basket or bucket like we did last week
OR play my versions of Skeeball.
You will need sidewalk chalk, paper and pencil for this activity. Draw 5 circles on the sidewalk using sidewalk chalk. If you do not have chalk, use 5 baskets or buckets. Each circle or bucket has a value, the further from you the higher the value. See diagram below. Have a paper and pencil handy. Toss the bean bag using the underhand toss and aim for a circle. If the bean bag lands in the circle mark your score on paper. Start with 5 tries. Add up your score. Next take 10 turns, then add up your score. Play with your family. Do the math and see who wins. Have fun!
Watch as one of our Geer Park Stars, Angelina, plays with her family.
