Peek at the Week

  • Our story this week was The Hungry Witch by Hands on Holiday Stories.  This story takes a  look at a witch’s Halloween supper.  She eats a wonderful meal of bugs and worms and spiders, but when she decides to add a few children to her plate, she runs.  Children love being grossed out and this Halloween meal is delightfully awful.  There’s a lot of new vocabulary and plenty of opportunities for communication in this story, but the main attraction is simple Halloween fun. Click the button below and enjoy the story at home!
  • We made Monster Slim and filled it with all the disgusting things the Hungry Witch eats
  • We decorated and carved pumpkins
  • We decorated our Halloween Bags for Trick or Treating
  • We worked on comprehension skills by answering who, what, where questions
  • Our letter focus this week was “Gg” The children explored items from our “Gg” box like Gail, grapes, goat, guitar and ghost.
  • We finished All about Me from ULS. This months unit focuses was on what makes us unique and similar as well as body identification and function.

A Message From The Principal

Greetings Howe School Families,

I want to take a moment to personally thank you all for your patience and support as we paused in-person instruction this week. We are very appreciative of the hard work and dedication of our students, families, and staff members to keep our children learning through this period. As you know, this pause was implemented to help stop the spread of a covid-19 outbreak in our school. This was a mitigation measure that took place to protect the health of our school, which includes those with high risk due to pre-existing health conditions. While our students have been learning remotely, intensive cleaning has taken place, I have met with the Wayne County Health Department, and we have reviewed all our mitigation plans and procedures with the Health Department and staff to confirm that we are in agreement with current best practices and recommendations.

On Monday, October 18 we will return to in-person learning. To keep us healthy and in school, we need the support of our families to complete the daily covid screener before bringing or sending your child to school. Our staff also screens themselves daily before entering the school building. If you are ever unsure, it is better to keep them out and have them tested before returning to school. If you see any of these symptoms, please use care: cough, fever, shortness of breath, upset stomach, headaches, runny nose, congestion, and/or body aches are all symptoms that should be taken seriously.

Free rapid tests are available daily in the district at the following locations:

Salina Intermediate: Monday -Thursday 7:00am-8:00pm and 3:30 pm-4:30 pm .

Fordson High: Monday – Thursday from 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. AND 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Edsel Ford High: Monday – Thursday from 6:40 a.m. – 7:40 a.m. AND 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Dearborn High: Monday – Thursday from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

For any students who are sent home during the school day with developing symptoms, a test continues to be required for re-entry into school. No exceptions. Likewise, if your child is identified as a close contact and is required to quarantine, all guidelines provided by the principal or covid nurses must be completed prior to return. It is critical that you notify the school if your child tests positive so that we can complete contact tracing. Please know that a person with covid can be contagious for a couple of days prior to the onset of symptoms. All of these measures are important to keep our school healthy and keep us in school. If you have questions please feel free to reach out to me at 313-827-7004.

Thank you, again for your continuous support and dedication to our community.

Respectfully,

Tammy
