It’s all in the bag!

Boy was it hot inside of Stout yesterday! Several teachers met yesterday morning to begin the task of bagging all of your locker possessions for next week’s pick up.

If you left items in your locker, they were all placed in a bag and are labeled with your name and locker number. Each hallway has a designated pick up date next week. Due to Covid-19 work restrictions, only the designated hallways can be picked up on the scheduled dates.

You will need to write your name and locker number (large enough to be seen from a distance) on a piece of paper and place it in the windshield of your vehicle, on the passenger side, as you drive up to the school.

No one will be getting out of their cars. Staff will be on hand to read the sign and then bring your bag to the passenger window of your vehicle.

If you are unable to make the scheduled pick up times or need to pick up belongings from multiple lockers, please email Mrs. Faraj {farajh@dearbornschools.org} to make other arrangements. REMEMBER! Any belongings not picked up by Friday, June 5th, may be disposed of so it is important that you have a family member come up to school or contact Mrs. Faraj to make other arrangements.

Picking Up Your Personal Materials from Your Locker

Attention Stout Families,

From Monday, June 1st through Friday, June 5th, from 10am to 3pm, students will be able to RECOVER any materials they have in the building and RETURN any materials that are property of Stout that they may have. Please read the following information carefully as it pertains to your child. This will be conducted the same way as our Chromebook Distribution, as a drive through. However, the drive-through will take place in the Staff Parking Lot, at the far right if you were facing our building, where busses depart at the end of the day. The day that you can come pick up your materials depends on where your locker is. Parents must accompany their child and bring ID. Parents will be asked to pull into the Staff Parking Lot and follow the drive-through lane to the appropriate door, where materials will be handed to them through the passenger window. YOU MUST HAVE A PAPER WITH YOUR NAME ON IT AND LOCKER # WRITTEN ON IT TO SHOW THROUGH THE WINDOW TO STAFF WHEN YOU ARRIVE. Parents and students, PLEASE NOTE, if your items are not picked up by the end of the day on Friday, June 5th 2020, they will be donated to a local charity or disposed of.

Missing Work? Yes, you can still complete it!

I am proud of all of the students who are working so hard to complete all of their missing work! People can show responsibility in many ways.

All of our work for ELA is still available on iLearn. It is organized in reverse chronological order, meaning that week 9 is first. If you scroll down, you’ll find week 8, then week 7…week 6…and finally week 5.

You may click on the links to see the directions and to complete the work. If you receive a message that the assignment is no longer accepting submissions and/or responses, then that means that the due date has passed by severals days (or weeks). YOU CAN STILL DO THE ASSIGNMENT!

Just email me with the name(s) of the assignment(s) you would like to complete. I will send the work to you in an email.

I want all of you to do well this final card marking and I am happy to help you get caught up. All you need to do is ask for the help.

Stay safe and be well!

Are you considering AVID for next year?

What is AVID?

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is an elective class that combines rigor with support that includes the student’s own individual determination and the support of : content area teachers, other AVID students, their families, the AVID elective teacher and college tutors. AVID targets students in the academic middle – B, C and even D students – who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. AVID places students in advanced classes and provides them with an elective class that prepares them to succeed in rigorous curricula, enter mainstream activities in schools, and increase their opportunities to enroll in four year colleges.

Who qualifies for AVID?

– Students with AT LEAST a 2.0 GPA
– Students who have appropriate classroom behavior
– Students who may be the first in their family to attend college
-Students with good attendance
-Students who are motivated and have the desire to learn

If you are interested, fill out the application: Stout’s AVID Application.

If you have any questions, you can reach our AVID teacher, Mr. Liggett, by email at liggetj@dearbornschools.org.

Live session isn’t working properly

I am so sorry! For those of you who are trying so hard to join our live session, there is something amiss with the link to allow us to join in the combined session with Ms. Wooton’s class.

I am trying to work with the tech department right now to fix the issue so that everything will function properly for Thursday.

Again, my apologies to everyone! Hopefully I’ll see you on Thursday!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week…

…to all of the parents, siblings, and family members who have stepped up to take on the role of teacher to our students who are now at home learning with all of you!

We understand the challenge this presents in many families in many different ways. But we also know that you’re up for this challenge! You were your child’s first teacher and you know your children best.

We are excited to teach alongside you for these final weeks of the school year. Please know that all of your children’s teachers are here to help you as well. Send an email when needed so we can continue to support you and your child(ren).

We hope that you have a wonderful week and that you are able to find beautiful moments to cherish of this time with family.

Another New Week!

Your ELA assignments for week 7 are now available in iLearn. You may work on the assignments according to the suggested days or you may work on it at your own pace.

If you are behind on your work, you can still complete the missing assignments for credit. When logging into iLearn, the first work you will see is for the new week. You only need to scroll down a bit and you will find week 6 (if needed, keep scrolling and you’ll find week 5).

If you received an email regarding missing assignments, please complete them as soon as possible. If I do not receive any work and/or I do not receive a follow up email from you, someone from the district will be calling to follow up.

As always, I am here to help. There are several ways for me to be able to work with you but it all begins with an email from you. Please let me know what help you need.

“Technology is great…when it works.”

That quote from author Bobby Darnell couldn’t be more true! In the wake of the problems that plagued Google Meets, we were set to begin using a new platform to replace Meets. Unfortunately, the district has been experiencing issues with the audio.

Our talented Technology Department has been working around the clock to try to resolve the problems but, as of right now, have not been able to find a permanent fix.

As a result, our two live classroom sessions originally scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday, April 29th) have been cancelled. I will remove the assignment from Student Connect as well.

We are hopeful that they will have things resolved by this weekend so that we can begin fresh next week. Please continue to check our blog and iLearn for those updates.

Stay safe and be well!

Making Up Missed Work

I want to thank all of you who are working so hard to go back and complete your assignments from last week while still completing your work for this week! I am proud of the hard work and effort you are putting in.

This morning, I went back through each assignment and graded all of the late work. Those scores are now in Student Connect.

If you are still going to be completing work from Week 5, please email me so that I can give you access to the quizzes so that I know what will need to be graded.

The one thing I cannot stress enough is to be in communication with your teachers! If you are having difficulty completing the assignments for any reason, please email us so we can work with you to help you stay caught up with the work. We want you to continue to do well during these last 7 weeks of the school year. Let’s work together to make sure your grade is the best it can be!
