Thank You and a Few Quick Reminders!

Dear Parents,

It has been a wonderful school year and I have greatly enjoyed working with you and your third grader this year. Keep reading all summer long and studying multiplication facts! IXL will also be available along with a summer packet that will be sent home.

May 29th I will be leaving for maternity leave. During this time, Ms. Connie Flynn will be taking over. Ms. Flynn is a retired teacher and a familiar substitute at River Oaks Elementary. Ms. Flynn met with the students on Monday, May 20th to become acquainted. She looks forward to spending these remaining days with the students. Thank you all for your continued support!

Just a few reminders for the upcoming weeks:

-NWEA testing has been completed.

-This will be the last week for spelling test and the test will be Friday, May 31st.

-Homework from now until the last day of school is reading for 20 minutes and working on math facts. IXL is a great resource to use as well and available all summer long!

-The following week: June 3, 4 and 5 will be off. School resumes June 6. It is important that your child attends school until the very last day. We will continue teaching until the last day.

-Field day is June 10th and if it rains, the make-up will be June 12th. We NEED parent volunteers. If you would like to volunteer call Ms. Sandi at 313-827-6750. For field day, students don’t need lunches because the school will provide lunch. Make sure students are dressed according to weather. Students need to bring a bag with a change of clothes and towel, in case they get wet from the water activities.

-The last day of school will be Friday, June 14th which is a half day. Dismissal is at 11:45. If you are traveling earlier than June 14th, please let the office know.

-3rd grade team decided to send summer packets so students can maintain their learning stamina. Students will bring a folder filled with many scholastic magazines to read and answer comprehension questions. In addition, we will send a math packet with a calendar of daily activities. Students will receive a plastic sleeve and erasable marker so they can practice their fluency on multiplication and division. Since the students made so much growth, we don’t want them to regress (back slide) with their multiplication facts. As you know, this is a lifetime skill that needs to be mastered! Taking your child to the library to check out books is another activity.

Thank you for being a great support for your child’s learning and enjoy the summer break 🙂

Sincerely,

Mrs. Wetter
