School Closure Calendar and Activities

Dear Parents,
Thank you to all of the parents that were able to come in and pick up a few items for your son/daughter to practice over the course of the next few weeks. It is imperative that you check Class Dojo daily as if your child was attending school regularly. Assignments will be posted weekly (with due dates) to complete in Readworks.

Attached is a calendar of activities that require online access. Your child should complete the activities daily to continue their learning and progress during this closure. The calendar includes reading, writing and math activities.

Your child has made great progress in every subject since the beginning of the year. We do not want any of their skills or knowledge to be lost during this unforeseen situation. Unfortunately, since this situation is preventing us from seeing your child in person, we must work as partners to continue their education. Please understand the importance of holding your child accountable for the expectations listed above.
Thank you for your flexibility and support in these unforeseen circumstances. Please continue to check Class Dojo frequently for any additional updates. We will work to keep you updated as new information is available. As always, reach out to us with any questions via Dojo.
Educationally yours,

Second Grade Team

SCHOOL CLOSING

District Message:

“Greetings,

All Dearborn Public Schools will be closed for students effective immediately, March 13, 2020. This is a result of Governor Whitmer’s order to close all K-12 school buildings, public, private, and boarding, starting Monday, March 16 until Sunday, April 5.

Dearborn Public Schools spring break will take place from Monday, April 6 through Friday, April 10. Students will return to school on Monday, April 13, 2020.

Students may report on Friday, March 13, 2020 at the normal start time to only pick up their belongings and school supplies.

All staff should report on Friday, March 13, 2020 to assist students. Staff will only attend for the morning half of the day followed by a half day release time.

All staff should continue to check their email daily for updates and information.

As of Thursday, 3-12-2020 there are no reported or confirmed cases of COVID 19 in the Dearborn Public Schools.

This closure of schools is part of a nationwide effort to slow the spread of the COVID 19 virus. These actions will not eliminate the COVID 19 virus, cure COVID 19,  and this will not guarantee that a person will not contract the COVID virus at a later time. Again, these actions are part of a nationwide effort to slow the spread and limit the number of people who will become infected.

Thank you”

Reminder: Informational Meeting

This is just a friendly reminder that the important Read by Third Grade Parent Meeting will be held tomorrow. There will be two sessions, one at 9:00am and one at 2:30pm in the Media Center. We hope to see everyone there!

Informational Meeting: Read by Third Grade Law

Due to last week’s snow day, the informational meeting regarding the Read by Third Law has been rescheduled for Friday, March 6 at 9:00am and 2:30pm. The material being presented is very important so please do your best to attend one of the meetings.

Thank you!

Crayola ColorCycle Program

Geer Park will be helping to protect the environment by participating in the Crayola ColorCycle Program. This initiative is being led by Geer Park alumni and Girl Scout, Jaanaki Tarver-LaBarrie. We will be collecting dried out markers and highlighters so Jaanaki can ship them to a conversion facility where the markers will be repurposed and kept out of landfills. Please allow your son/daughter to check markers in the home. Instead of throwing them out, bring them to school and add to our recycling boxes.

READING MONTH

March begins Reading Month! A link to the Reading Month calendar is added below. It will also be available on the ClassDojo as well.

Survey: D-Shine Grant

Geer Park has received the D-Shines grant. As part of this grant our students will learn about nutrition and health. We are asking that parents complete a survey as part of our program. The survey is designed to gather physical activity and nutrition information as well as thoughts about the program from the community. This link to the survey is below. Thank you for participating.
