Students have bend reading and analyzing the sonnet form of poetry.
Students are now completing analysis of “Carpe Diem” poets.
Next week the LA 8 classes will begin reading MacBeth. This play is available on multiple websites in its entirety. If you search you can find the original text of the play and more modern translations to further understanding of the material.
These ideas and characters will be on the test.

Students will be given two prompts. They will eventually select one of the two prompts to compose an argumentative paper. Prior to writing the paper we will do a prewriting assignment Wednesday and Thursday. We will begin writing the finalized version of the paper on our Chrome computers using Google Docs. They will send the final draft to me on Tuesday. Below I have attached the prompts and the assignment.
Current Novella: The Awakening focus on theme, character, setting and in what context the story was written.
We will soon be reading the Shakespeare play Macbeth. We will examine and compare and contrast this tragedy to the ancient Greek tragedies. Motifs and symbolism will be other areas of focus.
Students will be doing a Close and Critical Reading (CCR) for an informational reading text. They will be asked to summarize the text, discuss the writer’s craft, identify a theme of the text and support their choice and finally, to relate how the text relates to an aspect of their own lives.
We have begun the reading of Beowulf.
School districts in Wayne County have placed a proposal on the November 8th ballot to provide added funding for our schools. It is the “Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal.”
If approved by the entire county, the 2 mil proposal will generate approximately $6.2 million from Dearborn but the District will receive $7.8 million in additional funding for our schools. Money would go to local schools starting this year and the millage expires after six years. Continue reading

CCS: Students are using the text to identify the organization of the play and the relationship between past and present events in the text.
